Hmmm...

I have two tapes to give to [livejournal.com profile] snowdrop24 - one with season 6 Stargate episodes on, and the other with random M*A*S*H episodes on.
I'm going to hang on to the Stargate one for a while, as Sky one will probably show all season 6 episodes for me to tape eventually, even the ones I've missed so far.
The M*A*S*H one - well, I tried rewinding it tonight, but I ended up watching it. I was trying to make a list of the episodes that are actually on it, but that proved difficult as the episode names are never actually given. All I know is that the first one on the tape is the one where the army accidentally bomb that village, and there's a lot of talk about soft-ice-cream makers, and the second one is the one where Hawkeye decides to send the camp latrine to North Korea. I do actually know the title of that one, I just don't know it right now. Hmmm.
There are two Stargate eps taped on the other tape (oops! I'll get the others eventually!) and six M*A*S*H eps on the one I was watching tonight. I have no doubt that I'll never manage to rewind the tape - I'll just keep on watching it(!)

Can anyone tell me anything about MST3K? Has it ever been shown in Britain?

Ooh - I thought of it! It's called "Dr Pierce and Mr Hyde" - I think...
I started thinking about episode titles for things earlier for some reason. Even started boring [livejournal.com profile] purplerainbow with it. I know every single Stargate episode title, which is simply the result of checking for spoilers in more than fifty pieces of Stargate fanfic, but still - I like episode titles. There's just something about them. My favourite episode titles (not eps, just their titles) are:

  • There but for the Grace of God
  • Prometheus
  • Redemption
  • The Fifth Race
  • Nightwalkers

I'm odd. I seem to collect episode titles, even from shows I don't normally watch, like the TNG titles "The City on the Edge of Forever" and "Encounter at Farpoint."
And then there's shows, sitcoms usually, that don't give you their episode titles, like Friends and Will and Grace. Friends has two inspired titles - "The One After the Superbowl" because it was first shown right after the Superbowl in America, and then the sublime "The One with Two Parts, Part One" and "The One with Two Parts, Part Two."
Will and Grace has some good titles - my favourites are "Tea and a Total Lack of Sympathy" and "Oh Dad, Poor Dad, He's Kept Me In The Closet and I'm So Sad" and the sci-fi inspired "There but for the Grace of Grace."
M*A*S*H has some good ones, too. "Bananas, Crackers and Nuts" and "The Ringbanger" - named after a guy who won't stop banging his ring on the table? What?! (Of course, I later discovered the guy is Leslie Nielson, the one from Airplane!)
And of course, there's always the minimalist route, which they seem to have taken with the episode title "Hawkeye."

Ye gods, have just noticed how much utter rubbish I've typed. I should stop. Now.

Hmmmm..... MST3K's real name is Mystery Science Theater 3000. It's set (unsurprisingly) in the year 3000, and the basic premise is that two robots and one human watch really old, really bad sci-fi movies together and laugh at them. So you get, a) a really trashy sci-fi movie to watch and b) ironic metatextual commentary. Or else just a bunch of robots shouting 'Kill him, kill him, kill him!' whenever the annoying sidekick appears. I saw it once in America, when they were doing a truly awful old Raul Julia film called 'Overdrawn at the Memory Bank' *insert scathing comment here*. I've never seen it on UK TV, but I guess if it were anywhere it would be on the sci fi channel.
....just on a random note, wasn't 'City on the Edge of Forever' the TOS episode where Kirk, Spock and McCoy get stuck in 1930s America and Kirk gets to flirt with Joan Collins? I remember it pricipally because Spock is building a makeshift machine of some sort on top of his bed in his and Kirk's apartment, leading to the interesting question - so where was he sleeping? Hmmmest.
On an almost completely unrelated note - Trapper went home! Waaah! All my brother said was 'His new partner's nickname is Blow Job? Could they get any more obvious?'

The City on the Edge of Forever - yeah, that might have been TOS, I really can't remember.
And yes, Trapper went home. Waaah! Unfair!
Incidentally, how old is your brother?

the one where the army accidentally bomb that village
"For the good of the outfit"
There's a good FAQ and episode guide on the web, with descriptions and names of eposodes... Not sure where, though. I think there's a link from my website, or google for it.

MST3K used to be on the (*hack* *spit*) Sci Fi channel, not sure if it still is.
It's a bloke and two robots who sit watching old SF B-movies and taking the piss/making up dialogue/talking about the remake.

Thanks!
I think I might just spend an hour or two browsing through the M*A*S*H FAQ. I love FAQs - who doesn't? *laughs*
