So some people do this meme in December and ask their friends to give them things to talk about, which I always think is really cool and love reading all the answers. I am choosing to do it in August/September because that's also where the year begins, for many of us, and because now feels like a good time when I'm also feeling I don't have much in me to say.

So, have at it, if there's anything you'd like me to write about I will try. I reserve the right not to answer, but life, work, friends, race and gender, fandom, writing, books, controversial opinions (or just plain opinions) and anything else, all fair game.

Oh I have a few things I'd like to ask!

* Why did you choose to apply to and attend the various schools and colleges and educational programs that you have applied to and attended in your adult life?

* What condiments and toppings do you love?

* Is there a fandom that seems, on the surface, like it should be a really good match for you, but you have never been able to get into it? If so, what is it?

* When you look back on this professional conduct discussion from several years ago, have your intervening years of professional practice changed how you might answer that question?

* Are there any plotbunnies you wish someone would write so you could read them?

Have you watched Picard? If so, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it. I loved how you wrote Picard and Data's relationship in "Welcome, Wanderer."

May I ask about language study and what you find interesting/exciting about it? Anything at any level, from historical/personal meaning etc. all the way down to specific conjugations or consonants.

Oooooh I always enjoy this meme but December is always too manic for me to really keep across the answers! (Or to do it myself!)

I’d like your opinions about the recent controversy around the whole Gaelic in the Vernacular Community book. Does it tell us anything useful about the state of the language? How does it look from the perspective of urban adult Gaelic learners outside the Gaidhealtachd? ( ie is it remotely relevant to you and your classmates?)

On a lighter note, what’s the silliest/most charming encounter you’ve had with Gaelic in the wild - perhaps the least likely place you’ve encountered the language?

Or trains! Tell me about your favourite train lines? The ones you’ve travelled yourself or the ones that you dream of travelling?

What is something you used to see a lot of in fandom, don't see anymore or as much anymore, and would want to bring back?

I would be interested in any/all of the following

  • speculative fiction from India
  • favourite niche details of process in the civil service
  • favourite words / phrases in Gaelic
  • works you would like to write but haven't yet started
  • works you might have written in an alternate universe but won't in this one
  • what is an agricultural litigator?

I would love any combination of the following:

* The history and nature and joy of your relationship with Gaelic
* A day in the life of your job
* Are there any books which taught you or inspired you to write in a way you hadn't been before?

I would really like to hear about how your relationship with drafting has changed over time -- I get lots of it in real time (which I love!) but it would be really cool to have your perspective on how it's changed, what you've learned, what you feel differently (or the same) about, etc...

Poor reading comprehension when starting to read the linked post made me curious if you'd be willing to do the same thing about drafting in the writing process sense!

Tell me about an old fandom, one that helped shape you?

I'd also like to know about places you've never been but would like to go?

I know you love the quotidian and everyday portrayed in fiction (as is only right and proper): do you have any further thoughts on either good portrayals, or ways you think work/don't work to incorporate those kinds of details?

I would love to hear about something daft that makes you happy.

Any book recs?

I really enjoyed the stories in Consolation Songs, and their hopeful endings. What was the process of putting the anthology together like? How did you come up with the idea for your story? Does Lizzie reunite with her fiancee? Where do Audrey and Pratyusha go for their next date?

Well, truly, the question I have is: what do you think love is?

I ask both 1. because I adored (and saw myself in) the thorny relationships and friendships in Sing For the Coming of the Longest Night, and 2. because I have a hunch your answer is more interesting than most.

But also I recognize that I am a ridiculous person for asking such a question, and I won't be put out at all if you don't wish to answer.
