1. We won the boatrace omgyay! Yay dark blues.

2. The Party O'Doom is over, and thank all the gods out there for that. It went off fairly well, without too many disasters - I put gin in my lemonade, which may have helped - and no kids threw up, the dog didn't scare anyone to death and there wasn't too much singing. For some reason part of the stair bannister is missing, though; Mani helpfully put the pieces in her brother's bed. I am simply bemused as to how he didn't notice he was sleeping on top of a four-foot wooden pillar. Anyway. The best part of the weekend was going to the beach in the middle of the afternoon, watching the dog haring up and down the dunes, and wandering in and out of the water. It was icy cold, muddy and blissful. Still, I'm so glad it's all over.

3. And I can finally reveal to the world: I wrote Still Flying, Still Breathing (the Pennyroyal Tea remix), which remixed The Past and Pending by [livejournal.com profile] cherryice. It's a lot like the original, which is a lovely story about Zoe, Mal and the absence of Wash. Thank you, everyone who feedbacked it. I was very flattered, and I must say that I don't deserve the praise; I wrote that story all in one go twenty-four hours before the deadline, and if it hadn't been for [livejournal.com profile] amchau it probably wouldn't have been written at all. Still! I'm pleased I got it done, and that people liked it.

It also appears [livejournal.com profile] thistlerose wrote the remix for me, Don't Shoot The Messenger (the strangers in the night remix) and as I know of her as mainly a Sirius/Remus writer, I can honestly say I'd never have guessed. Thank you very much.

Now, I leave you all in favour of watching Prisoner of Azkaban again. It is joy, and I'm having fun Sir Cadogan-spotting. Tomorrow, Keynes and Friedman! urgh.

Oh! I read "Still Flying, Still Breathing" and wondered if it was you. Mostly I think the use of the Chinese tipped me off--you had a very particular way of integrating Chinese into your first Mal story, which I recognized here--but also "recalcitrant tin of beans." Seriously. I read that phrase and thought of you. You have quite a writer's thumbprint on you. *grins*

In any case, what beautiful, beautiful work. I've never done Remix because I'm so afraid of stepping on people's toes (and, this year, because I am blocked solid), but I loved reading it this year and kind of discovering new crevices of other people's writing. I just got finished reading [livejournal.com profile] the_acrobat's remix, and I got the same feeling from it--wow, you guys are talented in ways that I sometimes don't even realize.

You're very welcome! *g* I was really excited when Victoria assigned you to me. I also knew you from HP, but I was looking to try something new and had just become a bit fixated with the Buffyverse.

*laughs* I'm pretty sure the other story also featured Mal versus a tin of beans! (And I have a Doctor Who story with a tin of beans as a major plot point! What is WRONG with me? *g*) But seriously, I find that very interesting, particularly as [livejournal.com profile] amchau was telling me just a day ago that my writing has certain easily recognisable elements. Which intruigues me, as I never thought I had a particular authorial voice because I don't stick with either drama or humour but mix them up wholesale, and the different approaches don't cohere.

Blah blah ramble yes. I'm so glad you enjoyed the story! I shall try and persuade you for next year, because it's such fun. *g* And if it didn't come through in the general enthusiasm, it is SO GOOD to hear from you! I know you've likely been v.busy with family matters, but still, it's terribly quiet without you.

Heee. I remember you from years ago over on the Sirius/Remus thread at FAP - I swear I remember reading the first Midnight Conversation story back when I still hung out over there! - although I don't think I ever mustered up the courage to talk to you! *g*

Oh, you definitely do have a distinct voice. Meredith ([livejournal.com profile] garnettrees Meredith, this time!) aside, I think I can recognize yours more quickly than anyone else's. Possibly this has something to do with the fact that I've beta-ed for you once or twice, too. Anyway--it's a good thing, in case that wasn't apparent. Sometimes people tell me my writing voice is easily recognizable and I'm not sure if it's a compliment in context, so I'm just clarifying that. :)

Assuming I can EVER WRITE AGAIN (blah blah blah generalized woe), I probably wouldn't need much persuasion for next year.

In my defense, I have been LJing on and off... only then I end up privatizing what I write within an hour's time, so I suppose that's no defense. Hopefully I will be up to coming back soon. It's terribly quiet in my head without you all.

Aww. I remember loving "Making Moony Laugh"!

It was wonderful rediscovering your stories. I really liked your genfic about Xander and I spent a while trying to figure out how to remix it. I loved your Firefly story. :)

You linked to last years story, dearie ;)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/other_sports/rowing/4870298.stm would work better if you're looking for this year's statistics. But we won both years, so no matter :D
