raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (misc - me)
[personal profile] raven
I'm at home. This is a strange and wonderful concept, but emphasis on the wonderful; my mother spent the week getting more and more insistent that I come home, while I did my very best to to fob her off with half-formed excuses about needing to use the library. Of course, what she didn't know is that I bought the tickets online last week, they came on Monday, I bought my railcard and packed stuff all Friday morning, and when I was sending her frantic texts instructing her not to call, I was in a tutorial, I was actually on the 16.35 from Oxford to Crewe. She was out getting milk when I got home, and when she got back and I opened the door, well. I've never seen anyone light up quite so beautifully.

In short, I am very pleased to be home and my parents are pleased, too. It's Diwali on Tuesday and my mother's birthday tomorrow, which are all good reasons to be here, and when I explained all this to Bob at the beginning of this week, he shouted that family was much more important than Logic and that I should go home. Unexpectedly sweet of him, I thought, but it all became a moot point anyway because as of yesterday, I am no longer doing Logic! It's true; much making of pathetic faces on my part persuaded Bob to let me switch to Mill's Utilitarianism instead. I love the world, but dread the essays. Life is, as always, interesting.

Being at home has one unexpected benefit - I can download music! This is going to be one of my begging for music posts, I'm afraid; I will return the favour with interest at Christmas, and you can all take exactly you want from my minimal and painfully uncool collection, but in the meantime I have nothing new to listen to. Please, pretty please upload stuff, anything you think I'd like. The only thing I'm after specifically is a studio edit of the Indigo Girls' Land of Canaan, but I'd love any old stuff by them, anything old by the Goo Goo Dolls, anything at all, basically.

Other than this, nothing at all is going on. I went out for Chinese to Café Opium on Thursday, having survived Logic and tried out for the university quiz team and shrieked abuse at Varian fo most of the week, I was joining the mood of general celebration. Afterwards I lost Claire and Pat in favour of Po Na Na, and didn't mind wandering back to college in the moonlight. Lovely, although the image of college feels terribly far away sitting here at the kitchen table at home. I'm wearing my Balliol hoodie and feeling like it belongs to someone else; like I've said before, life in college is another time and another place.

Talking of which, worlds are colliding at the weekend - [livejournal.com profile] clareyperson's coming to visit, just in time for Guy Fawkes and the Hallowe'en bop. Balliol is having a four hundreth anniversary spectacular for Guy Fawkes - apparently, the site of the pub where the Catholics conspirated is now part of Balliol College - with fireworks and marshmallows and lots of food out on the Master's Field. I just have to survive the journey back, the week, and the advent of maths lessons!

So, yes, much craziness. I need music and I love you all.
