We are at the stage where random pieces of the Chemistry syllabus keep me going.

1. Alkyl groups increase amine base strength; benzene rings decrease it.

Weather is absolutely abysmal. Today, it has snowed, hailed, rained, been windy, sunny, stormy, lightning has flashed and thunder has crashed, and when I was coming out of school I saw great blocks of ice slide down the glass of the atrium and hit the ground with heavy flumping sounds. I've been home an hour and my hands are still chilled to the bone.

2. In nmr spetra, tetramethylsilane gives the zero peak.

However, it is getting lighter. I got home at quarter to five and it was still light, which is a distinct improvement; it's dark now but you can't have everything. I actually like the weather when I'm inside and cosy; I suppose everyone does.

3. At half-equivalence of an acid/base titration, pKa = pH.

I'm not in the mood for updating properly, as we can see, but nothing of any importance has happened today. I spent lots of time hiding from the rain in the library and bugging Miranda; the scientists are in despair over the stats exam (apparently it went very badly); we're thinking of setting up some sort of club within the library, but I don't know what exactly. I was in there when Mrs Miller stomped in looking despairing, as her memory pen wasn't being accepted by any computer in the school. Turned out she'd locked it. I was amused.

4. Alcohols are dehydrated to alkenes with protons donated from sulphuric acid and regenerated at the end.

I am extremely happy that Sky One are showing season one of Stargate, because it's so good and the early episodes are so much fun to watch, what with the complete irreverence of the show at this stage. Slight attack of nostalgia, always good. Anyway, my annual fandom nostalgia post is probably coming up, because next month I'll have been in fandom four years and will want to do something about it.

5. Acyl chlorides react with alchols by nucleophilic addition-elimination and produce esters and hydrochloric acid; this is more effective than esterification because it is not an equilibrium.

I'm going to fail. Blah. Coffee.

Do you want a banana cake or a banana bread?

There are also some recipes which appear to have nothing to do with bananas, except for the fact that they have the word 'banana' in the title. This is strange.

Cake, methinks.

Like Welsh Rabbit, that has no rabbit in it. V. annoying.

Um. Books. Coloured pens. White nail varnish. Propelling pencils. Quiggins-type things. Candles. Lights. Anything. Geek stuff!

"We are at the stage where random pieces of the Chemistry syllabus keep me going."

Keep 'em coming, this is the only chemistry revision i'm getting :) Seriously, i actually learnt stuff from this post!

I'm with you on the season-one-stargate train of thought - just watch Bloodlines today and they all looked so young, it's terrifying.

*smiles* There is more, don't worry. Am going to be killed by this module, I know it.

I adored young!SG-1, particularly floppyhair!Daniel. Fire and Water today! *squees*

I'm loving Stargate right now. The 1-7-1-1-1-1-1-7-1-etc. thing is still giving me slight mental whiplash, but I seem to be coping. The Torment of Tantalus is excellent, you're right-- though my sudden Daniel/Catherine thing is, I suspect, not the kind of thing of which you'll approve. And wasn't Citizen Joe brilliant? I am dead from meta love!

You are so much cooler than Rolf Harris, I hope you know that.

And, thank you! Thank you so much. *mwah*

Torment of Tantalus, sigh. Did you spot the mega-huge-enormous science error? And I didn't see Citizen Joe! It'll have to be the weekend repeat for me.

Well, having read the Fringedwellings, I realise that it doesn't make a lot of sense for the DHD to fall into the sea without weakening the floor and plunging those of SG-1 who are present down with it, but other than that, no. And I didn't spot that on my own. So either it's not mega-huge-enormous, or I'm a total science moron. Take your pick.

Citizen Joe is definately worth it. :)

I always thought the DHD was in the part of the castle that actually overhangs the cliff, and SG-1 and the gate weren't.

And the big massive error! Daniel says: "These images are graphical representation of the basic elements: electrons revolving around a proton. The number of electrons indicate the element."

Darling, no. The number of protons indicate the element. Magnesium ions are still magnesium. Ditto every other element. Chlorine radicals are still chlorine. Sam would have had fits, if she'd been there.

But when it fell down, they (Jack and Sam and Teal'c) were standing round it!

Oh, protons and electrons and stuff. I am assuming from your explaination that in forming an ion electrons leave the, the, atom? very small thingy, anyway. I probably knew this at one point but forgot it the instant I walked out of my science GCSE.

By the way, I have other things to say to you. Two sets: one, re. Wincanton, which is long and involved and I'll stick in e-mail; and two, are you likely to have time this weekend to run a quick facts-and-spelling beta over a bit of HP and potentially also BtVS fic? I've only just started, and then deadline is Monday, so I'm not expecting it to be a *long* story. 1000 words, tops.

Well, that might be overstating the case. It's 301 so far, and rising slowly, with agonies like worms in the teeth and screams of pain like the howling of monkeys on laughing gas. Not to mention the tapping of keys like the invading feet of a plot-bunny army.

Correction: at the end of the first draft, it's 1081 words. I guess I'm better at guessing than I think I am.
