raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (daniel/sha're)
There is a picture of me in the Crosby Herald. And another in the Formby Times. I look blurry, but recognisable, with six others (from Formby) under a headline "The Magnificent Seven."

I think I died of embarrassment some time ago.

In other news, the scientists have nicknamed me (again!) Complex Iona. First one to get the reference is a bigger geek than I am. Makes a change from iodopropane or whatever it was last time. Transition metals are bringing out the geek in us all, apparently; I adore the way ions with certain oxidation states bear their Latin names and others have them in English. Argentate ions are far prettier than silver ones.

Yes, blah, blah. I thought about writing a rabbit hole post, but I don't really have the time. Fahrenheit 9/11 is on Channel Four at nine tonight; strangely, I've never seen it. Pedar and I are planning to do the popcorn thing, despite the fact I'm going to school tomorrow and am shattered anyway. Nevermind. It's been an odd, gentle day - happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] cat4ian, and in my defence it seemed like a good idea at the time - featuring, among other things, Miranda and I going out to the village at lunch to purchase a sandwich, Mars Bar, Innocent smoothie, two local newspapers and Vampire Chronicles. Following which I idiotically went to Chemistry without file, paper or pencilcase, and she declared her attention to "spend my free reading Jack/Daniel smut."

I'm all for that.

While we were sitting outside the lab, Mrs Colvin informed me this year's schools quiz is February 23rd. I'm entirely too excited. If I have never explained this before, let me do so now - the quiz is called Schools Challenge, and is modelled entirely around University Challenge, though with less difficult questions, perhaps. I was placed in the team at the tender age of fourteen, having beaten the rest of the school in the general general knowlege quiz (I know, I know) and was one of the two lower school members (there are four overall). [livejournal.com profile] lilka was the captain (and there was the start of a beautiful friendship!) and while we lost by something like eight hundred points, I went home thinking I'd had the most hilarious afternoon of my life. Jane and I have this tendency to make each other laugh like idiots; like she said at Christmas, we meet and giggle solidly four hours. We did this impressively that first time we met, and the following year, I replaced the lower sixth member of the team.

Since Jane left, I have been team captain, and I'm finding it hard to accept this is my last shot at winning. We lose by less and less each year (and last year we beat the boys by a massively comfortable margin) so I'm hoping this time we may make it to the final. I'm picking my team this week, and the lower school members will be that irritating girl I forget the name of and Gayathri Kumar (yes, her!) and I also need to pick another sixth former. I'm leaning towards Sze-Kie. Mrs Colvin says I should test her. I will, when I get the questions.

("Barrel-maker!")

In other news, the entrance examination on Monday and I'm going down to London. Quite looking forward to it, actually - UCL interview on Tuesday. And that's it, I guess. [livejournal.com profile] thunderemerald, thanks so much for the songs! You're right, you know - I'm falling further in love with each new one you send me.

"And it's poetry in motion."
