raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (lost in translation [plush])
I am not talking to my mother. Note which way round the pronouns go. Being severely pissed off which someone who has just rung me aargh what the fuck is wrong with that woman isn't actually here is playing havoc with my concentration. I haven't been able to actually do anything this morning, and that includes getting out of bed. I only managed to surmount that little obstacle about half an hour ago, and having relegated myself to the realms of consciousness, I proceeded to do nothing at all apart from watch Malcolm In The Middle, which I don't actually watch as a general thing. It's all quite pathetic, really.

I said yesterday that I would spend today being good and revising reaction mechanisms. This does not look like a likely prospect when getting dressed presents too much intellectual effort. I can't write because I can't concentrate, and besides it was writing, of all things, that was at the root of yesterday's little spat with my mother. That would be why this journal entry is so disjointed.

In other news, the Stargate episodes last night were Metamorphosis and There but for the Grace of God. The former was quite good - have I ever mentioned how much I like Jonas? - and I didn't actually get to see the latter because of bloody Astitva. There was a time where Astitva was quite good where Hindi serials go. But the main difference between Hindi serials and English-language soaps is the fact that Hindi serials end. They don't go on forever in the way that soaps do. I don't know how people watch soaps. Things like Eastenders and Coronation Street (I hate it when people call it Corrie - ugh) have been going on in excess of four decades, which I would call saturation point. Astitva has now been going on for just over a year and I am absolutely sick of it. The plot is so tangential that I don't actually know who half the characters are. Pedar said, "This would be good fanfiction material."

I agreed absolutely. Badfic would have to reach whole new levels of bad to be considered badfic in Astitva fandom. Out of morbid curiosity, both Pedar and I did some googling to find out whether there is in fact a fandom. There isn't from what we could see, but I wouln't be surprised if there is one, just not online. Pedar was quibbling mainly because he has decided that despite the fact we've had Sky for years, we still only seem to watch three programmes. "And what are they?" I asked.

"Astitva, M*A*S*H and that one of yours."

That one of mine is Stargate. I tried to contest this, but on reflection, we don't seem to be a television-watching family. I have said, though, that we cannot stop getting Sky. Not only because I wouldn't have my various sci-fi fixes, but then my mother and grandmother would never get to find out what happens in Astitva. And we couldn't have that. Have I said that I'm not talking to my mother? I'm not talking to my mother.

I believe I was trying to talk about last night's two Stargate episodes. Metamorphosis was rather weird. There but for the Grace of God is one of my favourites, though. We watched it about a month ago when the resident lunatics and I descended on [livejournal.com profile] shipperkitten.

Talking of Emily, she, Clare and Hannah are getting back from D of E today. "D of E" stands for Duke of Edinburgh's Award, and it involves a lot of community service, sport, writing things down in a little logbook and going for long, muddy expeditions to the wilds of Wales. I have to admit I don't know where they went this time - it might not have been Wales, but I doubt that - only that they're back today and none of them will have been near a shower since Saturday. I never did D of E, something which I have never regretted. I actually do like walking. Pedar and I used to go clambering up the sandstone blocks at Thurstaston, and I fell over a lot.

Can anyone tell me where to go to find good, gen Stargate fic that wasn't written before 2002? Ditto on Starsky and Hutch movieslash (which wouldn't be written before 2004, but you get the idea). It's dawned on me that the reason I'm reading Harry Potter all the time is because it's the only fandom I actually know my way round at the moment.

[Edited to add: Tory. Starsky/Hutch moveislash!]

Yeah. The whole getting-dressed thing.
