Of course, we know why [livejournal.com profile] loneraven's called Iona, don't we... ;)

No, Emily, you know why I'm called Iona!

So, to confuse everyone else:

1. What does your first name mean?

It means "rich in knowledge," or so I'm told. Apparently I was given it because my grandparents believed I would grow up to be intelligent. My grandfather was the only person who's ever called me by my first name, but he died last year, so now no-one does.

2. What does your middle name mean?

Iona is a Hebridean island, supposedly where I was conceived, which is really not something I need to know. As for what the name itself means, I don't know... it comes from Greek, I think, and may mean amethyst, but I'm not sure.

3. What does your last name mean?

Not a clue. It's very common, so it must mean something, but I don't have any idea what.

4. So what does your name mean when put together?

Knowledgable amethyst? Oddness.

5. What would you have been named if you were the opposite gender?

Hamish.
Yeah, I know.

6. Any other name oddities?

Um... I'm Indian, with a never-used Sanskrit first name and Greek/Celtic nickname that everyone calls me... odd enough?

The end.

HAH! I THOUGHT that was the probable source of your name! Er, the island, I mean. Not the conception thing.

See, er, I was there in '97 with my parents. It's a cool little island.

Although as a person's name it's a bit odd.

You were there? *shakes head*

Small world.

And my name, odd? How appropriate.

Yeah. We lived in England for 6 months in '93, and went back for a visit summer of '97. Mum wanted to go to Iona because there's a really cool new age community there. We picked up some very cool booklets with a bunch of skits there, actually.

Hamish? Hamish? Lucky you were born a girl.
I didn't know people just called people... Hamish. It's actually a form of the name Seumas, which is Gaelic for James. I could get into the when you use that form, but it's complicated and I don't care that much.
Lucky, lucky girl. Heh.

I've often asked my parents why. Apparently it seemed like a good idea at the time. When I say the same thing applied to the Nazi party, they get annoyed. Huh.

I like my name. And I'm glad I'm a girl!

I'm intrigued to know what your first name is.
My cousin is called Iona. It's a great name. Though, my cousin is Scottish so it suits her a bit more than you. Perhaps anyway.

At least you can say 'Ha my parents had that idea first!' if you ever get to meet Brooklyn Beckham.
:p

My first name?
Gah. You will never know. Very few people do, outside of my immediate family. Becca knows, I think, and so does [livejournal.com profile] osiris13.

If I ever meet Brooklyn Beckham, I'm starting a support group. My-parents-saddled-me-with-a-weird-name-and-uncomfortable-reminder Anonyous.
