Shubh Diwali, friends. The first Diwali I can remember is, I think, 1990? I remember going out into the garden with sparklers. I don't think I ever really appreciated until this year that there was always something - sparklers or puja at home, having friends over even if it wasn't a giant Diwali party (though my parents had plenty of those! my dad never liked going anywhere for Diwali, he insisted we celebrate in the house, so everyone came to us) and since 2009 I've held my own parties wherever I've been living.

There should be a paragraph here about how even in these times of great grief We Will Endure Despite Everything, but I have to say, I'm not feeling that. But by happy chance I wrote a Diwali story earlier this year: Heard, Half-Heard, in the Stillness, for Anathema - so that's something. I hope you are all well and happy and with your people, wherever you are, with no need to make your own light.

Shubh Diwali to you too! <3

We also always stay at home on that night. But I do take a walk around the block to see all the lit deeyas in the neighbourhood, and watch fireworks from the front porch.

Ooh, I just read it! Lovely, wistful, and perfect story for a night such as this.

Shubh Diwali.

It is a beautiful story, and I'm really - I wish for you to be able to find hope again some time soon.

Shubh Diwali. I wish you light even in dark times, if that is appropriate. (and if it is not, please forgive me; I wish you all good things.)

Thank you for sharing. I'll read when I'm feeling a little less weepy. Hoping everyone can find a little light these days.

I read Division Bells today and it was perfect. Definitely a light in the darkness of these times. Happy Diwali!

Sorry. I accidently replied to someone's comment. It is a beautiful story, and thank you for sharing. I may not always understand completely, but your stories are always worth reading.
