Dear Yuletide author,
I'm
singlecrow on the AO3. Thank you for writing a story for me! You'll have seen from my sign-up that the only thing I definitely do not want in my story is violence against women. Other than that, please write the story of your heart, I am 100% sure I will like it a lot. If it would help you to have more detail, here it is, but feel free to ignore all of it.
Generally, I like stories about friendships, people being kind to each other, and people being good at what they do. I don't do Christmas myself but very happy to have it and other festive elements in my stories. I'm also more keen than most people on bittersweet or sad endings - which isn't to say I don't like a happy ending! But if the story of your heart doesn't have one, don't shy away from it on my account.
I usually am not that keen on PWPs, just fyi, though very happy with sex and kink in my stories. More on specific fandoms as follows.
Piranesi - Susanna Clarke
Characters: Piranesi, Sarah Raphael
I would love to know what life was like for Piranesi after the House, and about his and Raphael's friendship (which was my favourite thing in the book!). Do Piranesi's family ever believe him about what happened? (Does he keep trying to convince them?) Does Raphael keep visiting the House on occasion?
So I was - am - a huge fan of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell and was literally waiting for this book for fifteen years, and I love it so much, wow. It's so beautiful and wildly imaginative and compelling. I wasn't sure what kind of fic I wanted for it until I typed out "Piranesi | Matthew Rose Sorenson" and remembered later in the book he says he isn't either Piranesi or Matthew Rose Sorenson but a new, third person. I'm just fascinated by that third person, and the relationship he has with Raphael (who I also love! the story about her in the burning building was incredible), because in a sense they are each the only person who has ever truly known the other. It's such a quiet, beautiful relationship and I just really want to see more of it.
idk, this is not a helpful prompt! Honestly, I love them both so much, any story with them both in will make me happy.
The Temple of the White Rat - T Kingfisher
Characters: Bishop Beartongue, Zale
I love these two and I love the Temple, and what I'd really like is just a scene of everyday life in the Rat's service. Not every case they handle can involve murders, surely! (I mean, if you want to write one about a murder, please do! But if you want to write about tax evasion I am 100% here for it.)
So I really do love the Temple of the White Rat so much, both the series and the specific organisation! They help the helpless and they help them with litigation, my heart. And I love Zale and Bishop Beartongue as individuals also: Zale because they're a put-upon nonbinary lawyer-priest (and a property lawyer, as they keep on saying! why do they keep having to do murders!) and Bishop Beartongue because she's wonderful. My favourite bit in Paladin's Grace is where Stephen is thinking about Bishop Beartongue and how she's the closest he will ever get to true greatness. That he - the super-awesome fighting paladin - thinks that about someone who advocates for people, rather than physically fighting for them, is really powerful to me.
Sarah Caudwell - Hilary Tamar mysteries
Characters: Selena Jardine, Julia Larwood
Selena! Julia! Anything about their love and/or undying friendship would be so good by me.
[This is cut and pasted from my 2016 and 2019 sign-ups but nothing about my feelings has changed.]
HI YOU LOVE THESE TOO HI. I love these books so much! (Passers-by: they are a series of hilarious gentle murder mysteries solved by an Oxford legal academic (who is, by the bye, never gendered) while assisted by four young and hapless members of the Chancery Bar.)
I confess: I ship Selena and Julia like burning. I want all the rumours around the West London County Court to finally come true and for them to fall in love (competently on Selena's part, chaotically on Julia's) and live - barring Mr Justice Wellieboots - happily ever after. But I love how good friends they are, too. I love how Selena patiently goes to rescue Julia whenever necessary. I love Julia's sincere and whole-hearted belief that Selena is the best advocate at the Bar. They're so great together, I love them.
Also, I am an English lawyer. If you want to write me a courtroom drama about the Finance Acts, I'm here for it, is what I'm saying.
That's it, optional details are optional. Thank you again!
