Dearest internet! As some of you will be (painfully) aware, [personal profile] soupytwist and I are running a con! It will be in the lovely city of Manchester (England, not NH) during the summer of 2014. If this sounds like a good idea to you, please help us out here with things you'd like to see at a British fan con, and also please help us name it!

Lordy. Good luck!

PS: might be best not to clash with Worldcon!

Will we all fit?

[livejournal.com profile] hrodberht has asked if it can be a Thornley Colton con (Golden Age blind fictional detective). I have told him to suggest it. (I am in awe of you for deciding to organise a con in the same 12 months as your two weddings. Nerves of steel.)

I listened to "Ipswich" and "Johannesburg" today, you may be pleased to hear. It is adorable to hear Martin and Arthur (and Diego) being happy and confident. Also, "Will there be more learning how to understand people?". Oh, Arthur, you adorable darling.

Manchesterford fannishness in 2014! Will the con have a particular theme or slant?

Well, we're trying hard not to tread on the toes of [livejournal.com profile] vidukon, which is in a few weeks - the thought is very much along the lines of [livejournal.com profile] muskatjamboree and [livejournal.com profile] bitchinparty, so basically, the attendees propose and run the panels and the con comm don't have all the input, so it's a general fan con about all sorts of fannishness.

(Riffing off of conversation elsewhere, you know what you should do? You should come and do a Chalet/general girls'-own panel! That would be so cool.)

Ooo, interesting thought... I have no experience of panels (though I can wield a gavel with pride) so wouldn't know where to start. I love the idea of a CS/GO bit though, give me pointers and I'll have a think!

Yes, Chalet School! We can all talk about how utterly ridiculous it is.

Ridiculous, and yet strangely compelling...

Absolutely! You pick them up and read them like candy, and only ten minutes later do you go, "....wait, what just happened?"

Oh well, perhaps it'll give me a reason to get back to the UK in 2014...

So great! I would agree with [livejournal.com profile] emily_shore below, but actually at this point, it wouldn't be any easier to get there...

"International ConMan: A Fan Convention" would solve the not sounding like an event problem. ;)

We could have "Illustrated Pamphlets Detailing Schedule, Attendees and Various and Sundry Other Information" instead of con programmes and "Small Placards Proffering One's Chosen Appellation For Others' Reference" instead of badges! it would be the best. <333 wish you were here!

Excellent.

You should:

1) Do your best not to clash dates with the conventions on this list (http://news.ansible.co.uk/), in particular the Eastercon in Glasgow, the Discworld Con in Manchester, the Worldcon in London, and the Eurocon in Dublin.

2) When the time is right, contact the nice Mr Langford (via the "send email" link in the top left-hand corner) and get yourself listed.

I shall go now to Dreamwidth and try to think of a name.

Thanks for the tip - but I suspect our very limited budget will not let us be too fussy re: dates. I will be sure to get us listed, however!
