I am now on Fringe 3x01, "Olivia". Here are my thoughts on Fringe, you guys.

So. I stuck with season 1 on all of your say-so, and I adored the creepy shenanigans in "Ability" and "Bad Dreams". And then there was the season finale, and I was like, yes, give me more of this, creepy-weird-oddly-humane show! Yes. So I got back from India and blew through season two in, like, a week and a half. And oh, oh, slow start again but it heated up. I thought "Jacksonville" and "Peter" were a perfect pair of episodes. They're what I love, love about this show: the immensely complicated character dynamics. I love how Olivia and Walter have this strange, fluid relationship where she is justifiedly, slow-burning angry with him for things he undeniably did: but is stepping back because of his vulnerability, because of how unsure she is he's the person he was. (My view: Walter is endearing and charming but hasn't actually changed that much. I think the show is very clever in how it does this, giving him a half-redemptive arc without him ever quite renouncing what he did, or even not doing that shit any more (what episode is it where he drugs an FBI agent assigned to look after him? yeah.))

And then, "Peter". That was perfect, that was one of the best episodes I've seen of anything. It was freaky and well-imagined and heartbreaking and gorgeous. And, and, I like Peter a lot and I adore Olivia, both far more than I ever expected to. But I think the best thing the show has done so far isn't an episode, even: it's a brief handful of scenes. Peter waking up in the other universe, this strange, quiet, muted lakeside world, and meeting his mother. I wanted tonnes more of that - Peter in the new old world, more about the hidden history he has with his mother - but then it all sort of becomes an action movie at the end, doesn't it? And I'm sort of not thrilled with where it's going - I feel like the mystery's draining out of it a bit. (Also, at the end of "Olivia", there is now no character on the show who is the same Olivia Dunham who I've been watching all this time, and there goes half my reason for watching the show.)

But I'm still watching. Please, no spoilers, I'm really enjoying watching it unspoiled.

In other news there is no other news. Job still awful, life correspondingly so. I have started copying out poetry on the bathroom tiles because I am JUST THAT COOL.

Um, that is amazingly cool. Bathroom tiles at home or at work?

At home! (I am not badass enough to do it at work.) In bath crayon with "ages 5 and up" on the packet.

Your bathroom is presumably now incredibly awesome. (And you should do it at work! You might find like-minded souls joining in. I have some treasured photographs saved on my computer of the graffiti in the Oxford English Faculty's women's toilets, which was a thing of beauty.)

Ahaha, the EFL graffiti was a thing of beauty. (It has the same toilets as the law library, kind of, which is how I know. :P)

My bathroom is, ah, colourful. The only bit that's in direct line of sight while I'm in the shower is This is where I came from / the chlorine and the salt are blood and bones which is oddly appropriate, now I come to think of it.

Eeeee. I have so many things I want to say in response to this, but pretty much all of them would spoil you at least a little. But I'm glad you're still enjoying it! "Jacksonville" and "Peter" are two of my favorites as well; really, the whole set of episodes from "Jacksonville" through the season finale is just fantastic. ("Brown Betty" is still my very favorite, though. I want every episode to include Walter's marijuana-fueled noiresque musical fairy tales!)

I recall liking Peter from the beginning (snark will always reel me in), but Olivia definitely snuck up on me. I liked her okay, then more when she unkidnapped herself in "Bound," and by the middle of S2 I was sort of surprised to realize she was racing toward the top of my favorite characters ever list.

I can think of worse graffiti.

Oh, I forgot to say, the end of "White Tulip" KILLED me. and "Brown Betty" was terribly, terribly charming, and I could stand to watch more of the Astrid, Ella and Walter Show. :P

Still watching! I want to know what they do next.

the end of "White Tulip" KILLED me

OMG, me too. I was tooling along through the episode, thinking it was decent but annoyed that there was this case of the week taking up screentime when there were REALLY IMPORTANT THINGS HAPPENING IN THE MYTHARC, and then suddenly I found myself at the end with tears streaming down my face.

I could stand to watch more of the Astrid, Ella and Walter Show. :P

Hehehe! And the singing corpses, can't forget them!

I also enjoyed all the nods to XF in "Northwest Passage." Martha Plimpton was awesome too.
