Hello hello! How are you all! I have way too much going on in my head! I have a lot of reading to do! And papers to write! And I have had one too many bad days recently! And I want to do queer_fest! And also remix_goes_wild! And I want to write original fiction for the first time in years! And the Siren and I are planning for grad! I have a scholarship application to write! My apartment's a state! And the weather is turning over seasons around in my head!

...but Shim is here, and that's something. Something slow and easy. He's asleep, because in his head it's three in the morning, and oh, I miss the slow ease of another person in my life. Home is people not place and he's spent the evening reading Sir Walter Scott on my sofa and reading out the bits about the Scottish tolerance for excessive claret.

I am trying to write a post-canon Giles story for queer_fest, but can't get over him being DEAD. Seriously, you guys, I am not usually so bothered by canon not doing what I want it to do, but. But. Giles. Giles. I want to write happy fic where he lives happily ever after and I can't because he's DEAD.

In other news, I'm showing Shim Sports Night. We are up to "The Quality of Mercy at 29K", and we've had the Christian Patrick plot but haven't got into the Casey/Dana/Sally clusterfuck yet. Shim thinks CJ and Dana would get on. I suspect he may be right. Natalie is still my favourite. Isaac is also my favourite. So is Dana. ALSO DAN RYDELL STILL HAS A CRUSH ON HILLARY CLINTON, OMG. This will never stop making me happy. Neither will this show, omg. Two seasons and precisely one bad episode. Oh show.

1. The s8 comics start out at least 18 months after the end of Buffy, though I can't remember how long the story takes in-universe, so you have a bit of a window?

2. If not then, then afaik most fans don't count the comics as proper canon, so you certainly won't be pilloried for writing a mild-au. Especially if it involves GILES.

You are right, yes! But I have a weird hang-up about it. It's weird. I'm trying to get over it. You're better informed than me - what's going on, vaguely? I mean, where are Giles, Buffy and Willow, say, six months after the end of season 7, and where are the Slayers? I think I'm going to go for vaguely-compliant-if-you-squint and then try not to worry about it.

Hm, I am trying to remember! When the comics start, most of the new Slayers round the world have been found, and there's a fairly established infrastructure of bases in lots of countries - Buffy, Xander and Willow are based in Scotland, and Giles in England. But I don't remember much about backstory post-Chosen, so I would assume six months after s7 everyone is starting to set up their bases. I reckon any one character could be written doing that, or off around the world searching for new Slayers, or something else.

Hopefully someone will leap in if I've forgotten something significant...

I have found myself completely incapable of viewing the comics as canon, for which I am profoundly grateful because it means I don't have to get to grips with things like Giles being dead and can just assume that they all lived happily ever after. I hope you do write a Giles post-canon story! I would like to read it.

remix goes wild looks like *so* *much* *fun*! A challenge! But I have a billion things to do, too, and twice as many things that I want to do, when all this is out of the way.

I, too, refuse to acknowledge season 8.

Also, it is so nice that Shim's there. Having someone - the right someone, the 'home' someone - around is the nicest, most calming thing. I want to go home! ;)
