Things that are making me happy today:

1. Sunshine. Oh, sunshine and spring! Is it only me who forgets it comes every year? Over the weekend, [livejournal.com profile] jacinthsong wandered through parks and by the river and under lush clouds of cherry-blossom. It was such a long winter; everything is so bright.

2. The Indelicates' new album, "Songs For Swinging Lovers". After a few days of not really listening to it, I gave it the fair shot this afternoon and have spent a little while dancing around my room. I particularly like "Ill" and "Jerusalem", and this is where I would upload them as tasters, but! But, I don't have to! You can download the album legally here! Get thee downloaded and dance.

3. Related to the above - the dancing around the room, that is - I have written 1200 words of my remix, and I know what the rest will be about! Ditto [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest - I'm really looking forward to it, and my wee story is nearly finished, hurrah.

4. [livejournal.com profile] shimgray returns tonight, with gin-shaped boozes for me. I missed him but mostly I like boozes.

5. Deep Space Nine! I finished watching it last night, and oh, oh, I have some thinky thoughts and a lot of flail and oh, Odo, and Kira, and Jake, I love them all so much. Why do I lose my heart to Star Trek, why. (There is a long and teeeedious post detailing my love in the works, I am so sorry.) [livejournal.com profile] jacinthsong and I spent much of the weekend shouting "Gul Dukat and Kai Winn ewwwww!" at each other. (Ewwww!)

We also spent a lot of time declaring everything in the world to be Nick Clegg's fault - Laura's lack of feather boa, my surfeit of employment law, the failure of my glow-in-the-dark nail varnish to glow in the dark, etc., which brings us to:

6. ...I have been invited, unexpectedly, to a question and answer session with Nick Clegg on Wednesday. I am going to go, but I have no idea what I want to ask him. Hmmm.

clearly you need to ask him WHY EVERYTHING IS HIS FAULT.

/unhelpful

Why have you been invited to a Q&A anyway?

Why is Nick Clegg in Oxford?

Why are Gul Dukat and Kai Winn?

It's been arranged through the university's social sciences and law departments; I suspect it was arranged before the first debate, and Oxford East is a definite Lib Dem possibility; I DON'T KNOW OH MY GOD GUL DUKAT AND KAI WINN.

I was disappointed by 'Ill' to being with, because I guessed it was going to be about physical illness (WATCH ME BE EGOCENTRIC *blushes*), but I'm gradually warming to it. XD

I have to admit, I know most people listen to the Indelicates for their lyrics, but I sort of just like the music? *blushes* I love it for the bassline.

Actually I am envious! One of my failings is a total inability to enjoy ANYTHING just for the music. I have to know what the lyrics mean and like them too. I WOULD blame this on being an English student but I think it's hardly the case for everyone. Maybe I should blame it on being a poet and thus impossibly persnickety about language.

...Heeee, 'persnickety'.

*laughs* It works the other way too! It means I like the most hideous crap - I love nineties pop music almost uncritically, okay - just because the drums caught in my head, or something.

Bonus points if you start your question with, "as I said to Mike Huckabee at a similar forum in New Hampshire..." or words to that effect.

Mr. Clegg, how do you always manage to be so smarmy?

Why does Alex Salmond actually look like some sort of fish (perhaps salmon)?

I am, uh, of absolutely no help. Apologies.

Ever since hearing that there was a deleted scene from the final arc with Kira, Garak and Damar getting drunk in Mila's basement (which I have not seen cos Iona still has my DVD HUSSY) a tiny part of my brain has been contemplating Garak/Damar. I do not know what I think about this.

I assume he has consensual sex with his wife at some point between the beginning of season 1 and his return to Cardassia with Ziyel.

Just a piece of drive-by weird, since that seems to be all I can do these days (I read, I just don't comment much any more now that my health is failing): your journal is a bright spot in my day and I mentally perk up every time you post.

For some weird reason, you remind me of T E Lawrence. Just something in the narrative reminds me of the stuff I have from his earlier days when he was touring on his bicycle or going to school.

Thanks for being my friend.

You are so totally not the only one.
I have been re-reading Anne of Green Gables this week, and as a result the blossoms and the flowers and the hurtingly-green leaves have had me in italic-filled raptures. It's lovely.

Are you going to stay up all night to sing in the spring this weekend? Or do you have saturday exams again? If you do, I think we know who to blame....

Oh, Anne of Green Gables! A formative influence on me as well, I think.

No exams, thankfully! I am still not sure re: staying up all night, but if I do decide to do it I will def let you know. :)

"So, Nick, as yet have you locked yourself in a cupboard and screamed in fear about the fact you might actually have some political power?" (I think he looks a bit timid and Cable looks like a pushy parent. Maybe that's just me.)

AND KAI WINN AND GUL DUKAT IS WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS THEY HAD TO INVENT MORE LEVELS TO BE WRONG.

"Timid" was my assessment, too, actually - I mean, not timid exactly, he's a professional politician, but certainly he has a tendency to revert to stock phrases when nervous, and he's less practised than the others.

(JESUS I KNOW WHAT IS WITH THAT)

Ooh, I have downloaded The Indelicates album, and find it interesting that when I'm allowed to choose a price, I'd rather pay than get it for free, even though I could.

Spring has sprung, indeed. There is blossom all over the trees, here, and I haven't worn a jumper for days. I'm even sleeping with the window open, which is so nice.

I have no idea who to vote for! And I'm kind of so depressed by the seeming futility of my vote that I'm almost tempted not to use it, but I will, because a vote is a precious thing. I just feel that it will make no difference, in the end, because one of the three major parties will win, and they all have pros and cons. *sigh*

on 2010-04-28 09:21 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com
Hmmm. I am intrigued by this election as being so constitutionally different from the others, so I don't think your vote is futile. Or, as I was saying to someone else today, if you really feel uninspired you could always write "lalalalalala" on your ballot paper and draw a wee picture of an elephant. :)

Hmmm indeed. I guess it's not exactly that my vote is futile; I was quite excited by the idea that perhaps I could vote Lib Dem and they might get in - in my constituency, at least; our Tory MP, who has been our MP for donkey's years, is stepping down, so if we're going to change colours, now is the time. But then Anwar pointed out some policies they have which I don't think are necessarily beneficial, and the new Tory runner dropped something through the door claiming that our local Lib Dem guy has been lying about her, and now I a) don't know who to believe, because everyone is mud-slinging, and b) have issues with some policies of all three parties, and c) can't even vote on local issues, because of aforementioned mudslinging and confusion. Gah.

I will try to vote, I will try so hard, because as I said, I think it's important and a privelege, but I don't think I will ever be totally happy with it, and I shall definately draw a wee animal too. Unless that makes it a spoiled ballot paper.
