Snow day! Honest-to-God snow day. While I could probably make it in if I tried, by walking half an hour into town, waiting through the "severe disruption" for a bus and hoping like hell that Headington Hill has been gritted, the people who were supposed to be administering my mock exam can't get in from outside of Oxford; upon phoning to find out Shim has been told in no uncertain terms that you're not coming in. So, real, actual snow day!

(Of course, the difference is that I am a grown-up and entirely aware that this is not good news for all the people trying valiantly to get somewhere, and particularly my parents, who are both living on the hospital main site for a few days in case of surgical emergency (although, my father says they have clean linens and hot meals paid for, god bless the NHS), but. I don't have to do an exam today! I don't think I can be blamed for being in a far better mood entirely. Also, the snow is five inches thick, ludicrously and extravagantly beautiful and still coming down. I brought my big boots and we're going for a walk by the lake.)

In other news entirely, Gordon Brown is not a GQMF.

I am jealous! I have no one to play in the snow with :( still, it's very beautiful. It's the most snow I've ever seen in England, particularly here, where normally all the snow is dropped on the hills and the most we get is a few centimetres. We have inches and inches - more than five, I should think - and it's just amazing.

(Also, I was supposed to go to Manchester today. I struggled up the road, I got to the petrol station, and then I thought, I should phone them. I didn't get a conclusive answer to whether the open day was still on, but they kind of advised me not to come. So. I am at home. At least this way I get to enjoy the snow, instead of just driving through it.)

No, it is a good good thing you didn't go there! My parents are not a million miles from there and they are telling horror stories. Much better to be home safe!

*snow day solidarity*
(I am taking a snow day because the mildly annoying illness I had yesterday morning now makes it impossible for me to walk to work and continues to be painful and irritating. So yeah, some of the gloss is off the snow day, but still...SNOW DAY!!!!)

I feel terrible guilt at not getting in (even though last year I did make it, when I had to travel 30 miles each way in the snow and NOONE else made it in), but I have had a horrid UTI, and had to walk my bike home in snow last night and EVERY STEP HURT, so I said fuck it, and sat at home with my antibiotics and Lewis DVDs, pretending to study. Oh yeah, rock on.

Hopefully I'll get a laptop power cable one way or the other today, otherwise I'll be walking at least two miles each way with ten minutes on the train in the middle in order to get into the office and actually do some work.

Not having an exam is a perfectly good reason to celebrate though.
