A couple of quick links before bed: firstly, via the BBC, Adjusting to life after death row. I do recommend you read this; I met John Thompson a few months ago at an Amicus training event, and he's an inspiring man. I really do wish I could give more time than I currently do to Amicus and Lifelines - pretty much all of my pro bono work is done for one or the other of them, and it's so hard to keep that going during term-time. I try, though, and I highly recommend anyone with legal inclinations to check out the work that they do.

Secondly, a truly great thing being done by some friends: via the BBC, via timesonline, Giving What What We Can.

The friends doing this are some really, honestly good people, and I hope lots of people take a look at this.

As for myself: I've been thinking about it. It's something I will do, I've decided, when I have an income with which to do it. For one thing, given what my chosen profession actually is, there is a not unreasonable likelihood that my income over my lifetime is likely to be quite a bit higher than the figures mentioned, and this is something I ought to be embarrassed about. I don't know. I shall give the matter some serious thought.

Giving What We Can looks brilliant, and I have bookmarked it for future use. I love, absolutely love, the emphasis on efficient charities - charities that will make most use of your money. Because that's important, and something that a lot of people I know are not happy with when it comes to donating money. I may mention it in my journal and on facebook, if that's ok? I know at least one friend who will probably be very interested.

I shall peruse the other links at a later date; currently Anwar is shooting people on the telly box; it's rather loud and not conducive to serious reading.

Psst, your Amicus link is wrong; it goes to the BBC news story again.

Those links are all most splendid. I need to revise what I give to which charities once my job situation is resolved. I don't want to alter anything right now, knowing that my current job has a finite life and not knowing what I'll do after.
