Having what would be politely called a truly disastrous[1] mental health day, unfortunately. Off in a moment to fetch MOAR PILLZ, omg. Do me a favour, darlings? Tell me happy stuff. I'll go first:

-first of all, I sincerely recommend everyone listen to "Hope on Fire" a few times on top volume;

-the BBC have started talking about "the Obama administration" (and the world is starting to resemble The West Wing, oh my);

-the NYT Caucus goes into great detail about the Obama family puppy (it's the First Puppy, omg!);

-[livejournal.com profile] yuletide is open for sign-ups and is made of win;

-my cat. Look at her. Yeah.

Happy stuff, yes. Pretty please.

[1] I cannot SPELL that word. Disastrous. Disasterous. Disastrrrrrrrous. Um.

Yesterday I lost my notepad on the train and actually started crying because it had so much in it and I'd been planning to send it off to a mate in the US as part of her Christmas present; some kind soul handed it in at Manchester Picadilli and my sister managed to get it picked up for me and come home on the same day I'd lost it.

Yay :D!

Also; my fandom now has angels in. And they are awesome.

And, I just opened my gmail inbox and found that a commission I requested off a mate some time back has just been completed, and it is *gorgeous*, and if her LJ weren't flocked on the NC17 posts I'd so link you to the picture, because, guh!

um. I am so physically tired I want to be ill, and I get to go back to sleep for an hour before work?

And Thea Gilmore has released a cover of You Spin Me Round (Like a Record). I'm going to have to buy the album for a second time to get it, it's only on the deluxe edition which iTunes added after I got the standard edition of Liejacker, so I'm basically paying twelve bucks for it and I don't care, that song makes me happy in inexpressible ways!

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScICjRvTy3E) makes me happy. I think you've already seen it. So does this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdKexAVIUY4), in an entirely different, small, cruel way.

Oh, and I love all of Craig Taylor's one million tiny little plays about Britain, but this (http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2007/jan/27/1)one and this (http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2008/feb/09/2) one are funny and brilliant (rather than depressing and brilliant). They're only about thirty lines long each, too.

It makes me happy that people are already pondering Obama/Emanuel. But perhaps you are not as depraved as I?

(Even MORE happy-making is speculating on the pairing name: Obamanuel? Emama? Hee!)

on 2008-11-06 02:12 pm (UTC)

No, actually Emama is off the list, because it looks too much like "Enema".

I have pumpkin pie.

Here's a hug just for the heck of it.

America has panned the Life on Mars remake almost as much as I did.

I can go overseas and look people in the eye, and be proud of my leaders.

A friend needs a pet sitter, so I will be spending a quiet week in a house with just me, two cats and a dog.

- one of the lawyers from Casey v. Planned Parenthood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_Parenthood_v._Casey) agreed to speak at my symposium!

- I'm writing a non-cracky fic in which the Doctor is played by Catherine Tate, and ultimately is Donna.

- Every single anti-choice voter measure put forward during the american election failed, including the abortion ban in south dakota, the amendment to define life as starting at conception in colorado, and the parental notification for minors' abortions in california.

My black labrador has been running around all morning with various toys (tug ropes, bones, balls, odd things beyond description), alternating between asking me to play and just gallopping around like a crazy animal. I'd take pictures, but a) she never holds still long enough, and b) I have no camera.

Also, *hugs*. A lot.

Harriet looks like a proper teenage cat; a grown-up with a hint of kitten, you know?

I am warming to my tutor, probably because he no longer thinks I'm an idiot and ALSO because of a conversation we had this morning regarding weird coincidences. "Ah, well, these things happen quite a bit," I said.

"Very Pratchett," he mused. After the initial shock of him referencing Pratchett I cheerfully replied:

"Well, million to one chances crop up nine times out of ten!"

There was a mildly stunned silence and then we discussed Why I'm Dead Rubbish At Titling Stuff but, still. I think he's warming to me! He tried to make me do his lecture ths afternoon too. So that was good!

*hugs*

She acts like a teenage cat, too. She's all sulky and hides under the stairs.

Hurrah for Pratchett lecturers! I entirely approve.

Also: did I ever thank you for the package? If I did not, I humbly apologise. The cat adored the catnip in embarrassing fashion, and new music was ftw. Thaaaaaankyou.

Things which are good:

- Black Books is free on 4 on Demand (and it is like unto crack).

- I have finished my first essay of the term (3000 words! never done a philosophy one that long before).

- BBC weather says the drizzle will clear and the weekend should be warm (this is very important because I'm going to spend all weekend in the company of twelve seven- and eight-year-old girls, who will be very miserable if we have to keep them indoors).

happy things: i had an excellent fried egg sammich for breakfast this morning. i did not feel completely hopeless upon waking up this afternoon. (you may not think it, but i feel your pain on that front. i really, really do.) i'm fairly sure that i did not entirely fail the lab test i just took, and i thought that i most certainly would. i do not have class tomorrow and therefore i do not have to study or read ANYTHING tonite. i am going on vacation in a little over a month and i cannot WAIT.

the weather is perfect, and everything is 'okay' for the moment.

Alas, I didn't keep up with LJ at the weekend because I went home, but I do have some belated happy news that I shall share anyway in the hope that it spreads a bit of happiness (despite being entirely irrelevant to you).

I can't remember if I'd mentioned, but one of my friends, Ant, made a grand total of 3 days in Durham at the start of this year before he was diagnosed with shingles and had to go home. This morning, he appeared unexpectedly in a lecture. He has been back since Friday apparently, but since I went home on Thursday, I didn't know, and he hasn't been telling people because he wants to see the surprise on their faces. It was a very nice surprise; he's missed four or five weeks of lectures (fairly significant when there are only 22 teaching weeks in the year) so it was getting more and more worrying about whether he'd be able to come back and catch up, but he is back, and doing quite well, and that is very happy indeed.

*hugs* I hope you're feeling at least a little better. Much love and hugs sent your way, dear.
