After a very sane-making conversation with an old friend the other night, I've been sleeping better. Fitfully, and I keep launching into consciousness at the slightest sound, but it's more healthy, I'm sure, to wake up five times in the night than to never sleep at all.

I was looking forward to today and going to a nine o'clock lecture without being wiped for the rest of the day.

Of course, just when I was curled up and sleeping healthily, peacefully, at eight in the morning, there was a FUCKING FIRE ALARM.

Sleep GOOD! Yay, sleep. Fire alarms less so...

The time, when I was a Fresher, when they gave us a 5am fire drill and I spent the next couple of hours handwashing all my clothes because both washing machines had broken - in company with my friend Sarah and to a soundtrack of Meatloaf - is one of my fonder memories of my first year as a student...

I'm glad to hear you've been sleeping better. Do you think earplugs would help, if you're such a light sleeper?

What crap luck about the fire alarm! My best fire alarm story: I dyed my hair red with one of those temporary mousse dyes for the Halloqueen bop in my first year. So I had a foamy orange mass of hair piled on top of my head, and was about to get into the shower when the fire alarm went. I had to go outside in my dressing gown with my hair still like that - very embarrassing!

Do you want me to bring anything tonight? Not that I have much, but, y'know, stock, peppers, red onions, that kind of thing...

A red onion would be nice if you see this before coming over, but don't worry if not xxx

Sleep is great, and I'm glad you're at least starting to get some.

Your morning sounds a bit like my morning, except for me it wasn't a fire alarm but rather the cat leaping onto the bed and attacking my bare feet with rabid enthusiasm, causing me to leap three feet in the air screaming. I WILL NEVER SLEEP AGAIN.

Sleep very good indeed. Am hoping for more of it tonight.

And, yuck, 5am! Good to know you had a robust sense of humour about it. :)

Earplugs have helped, occasionally. I tend to lose them during the night, though, because I toss and turn so much.

And, urrrrgh, oh, poor you! And your poor hair! I wish I'd seen you with bright orange hair!

*laughs* Better than sex. Sleeeeeeeeep.

And, ah, poor you! That sounds truly traumatic. More so than the fire alarm, because at least the fire alarm is shared agony. *g*
