raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (rent - vive la vie boheme)
[personal profile] raven
I'm trying my best to keep up with comments on my previous post - thanks for all your input.

But. In the meantime, I'n finally ready to open this up!

“I am but mad north-north-west; when the wind is southerly, I know a hawk from a handsaw.”
Hamlet, Act II, Scene ii

The Altered Mental States Ficathon. Because it was good enough for Shakespeare, so it’s good enough for us.

Inspired by the glorious theatrical madness of Slings & Arrows’ Geoffrey Tennant, but it’s true: altered mental states are everywhere in fandom. You’ve got Daniel Jackson in the padded room, Fox Mulder’s single-minded, spiralling obsession, Josh Lyman’s fear of rectangles PTSD; you’ve got Buffy waking up in “Normal Again”, Hawkeye’s nightmares in M*A*S*H; you’ve got the Doctor with the silence in his head and the Master with the sound of drums in his. This ficathon is designed to explore this narrative trope in as many forms and fandoms as possible.

Take me to the rules and sign-ups!

And for the record, [livejournal.com profile] likethesun2 and [livejournal.com profile] absinthe_shadow are as GODS.

hey, just wanted to let you know where i pimped out (two places have the wrong link, unfortunately, i am trying to fix that ::hits head repeatedly:: 206_bones, bsg_creative, adama_roslin, femslash_today, csc_memo, alias_500, and ga_fic. so that's bones, bsg, girlslash, sn, alias, and grey's. i'm trying to get the office in on it . . . just have to contact the newsletter people.

i will also, of course, post in my journal. and if you want to put together a faq of "common" mental illnesses/links/qualifications for diagnoses/treatment, etc. i am SO ON BOARD. (basically because i'm bored and this is like homework review for me, and i'm a sick, sick person.)

i am SO EXCITED.

...wow. I can have your babies now? *g* That is so great, thank you!

FAQ would be a GREAT idea. Thing is, though, I am now pretty busy, and I really can't do it myself. If you did it, though, I would be majorly grateful. Like, even more than I am already. *g*

Hee, following [livejournal.com profile] furies's model:

Have pimped at [livejournal.com profile] mash_slash, [livejournal.com profile] melancholydanes, [livejournal.com profile] aldbournewhores, [livejournal.com profile] camp_toccoa, and [livejournal.com profile] oz_rapsheet. I'm waiting for the next post at [livejournal.com profile] spnnewsletter to go up, since you can't link them to a post that was made after the latest newsletter (which was yesterday). So when that's done, I'll have covered M*A*S*H, Slings and Arrows, Band of Brothers, and Oz. (I am not so good at drawing the big fandoms!) Because I'm dumb, I forgot that the Sorkin community [livejournal.com profile] inthetallgrass is just for fic, not general news, but it looks like [livejournal.com profile] furies has got Sports Night covered, at least.

I'm also considering pimping to some combination of [livejournal.com profile] historic_slash, [livejournal.com profile] rarelitslash, [livejournal.com profile] rareslash, and [livejournal.com profile] vintagefic, which might draw some people from smaller and more obscure fandoms, especially the book-based ones--which I think would be really cool.

And again.... wow. That's... twelve fandoms. wow.

The rare fandoms are a great idea! I think it might be a good way to draw the literary fans out of the woodwork...

Now. I go and face HP. If I don't come back you can have all my books.

What about Heroes fandom? (I assume it has one, but only three episodes in I'm scared to look for it.) HP, of course. The West Wing? BtVS/Angel? Smallville? Star Wars?

If I weren't going away tomorrow, I would do it myself. Alas, 8:30am train requires packing tonight and going to bed early.

On a different note, there's stuff in the comments here (http://copperbadge.livejournal.com/1382792.html?nc=10&style=mine) which would be useful for anyone trying to write post-DH Remus fic to be aware of. (Hint hint.)

Just want to say that the prompts list is absolutely lovely. :)

*grins* I entirely agree with you. I take no credit whatsoever!

Wow. I didn't realize how much I missed this style of ficathon until I saw the prompts list. I didn't think I'd sign up until I saw the prompts list, either... I AM SO EXCITED!

I can pimp you in SGA communities, if you'd like. I'll just go read some of the other pimpage and plagiarize. ;)

Oh, please! That would be awesome, and I completely forgot SGA. (shame on me!)

I was going to pimp it to House fandom, too, but realized that I'd left all of those communities, after too much wank. Whoops. It would be *perfectly* appropriate, though.

I'm afraid of what may come out...

I'll go look at the prompts list again.

OH MAN THIS IS SO FREAKING COOL.

I think everything's already taken - the prompts I wanted to use are claimed, anyway, and I don't really have time to tackle a ficathon right now - but this is an amazing idea, and brilliantly assembled. You are simply too much, ma'am. I can't wait to read the finished products. :)

*grins* Thanks so much! And, hey, only about six prompts have gone completely. That still leaves more than fifty for your delectation...
