The Altered Mental States Ficathon

I'm trying my best to keep up with comments on my previous post - thanks for all your input.
But. In the meantime, I'n finally ready to open this up!
“I am but mad north-north-west; when the wind is southerly, I know a hawk from a handsaw.”
Hamlet, Act II, Scene ii

The Altered Mental States Ficathon. Because it was good enough for Shakespeare, so it’s good enough for us.
Inspired by the glorious theatrical madness of Slings & Arrows’ Geoffrey Tennant, but it’s true: altered mental states are everywhere in fandom. You’ve got Daniel Jackson in the padded room, Fox Mulder’s single-minded, spiralling obsession, Josh Lyman’sfear of rectangles PTSD; you’ve got Buffy waking up in “Normal Again”, Hawkeye’s nightmares in M*A*S*H; you’ve got the Doctor with the silence in his head and the Master with the sound of drums in his. This ficathon is designed to explore this narrative trope in as many forms and fandoms as possible.
Take me to the rules and sign-ups!
And for the record,
likethesun2 and
absinthe_shadow are as GODS.

on 2007-08-02 08:37 pm (UTC)i will also, of course, post in my journal. and if you want to put together a faq of "common" mental illnesses/links/qualifications for diagnoses/treatment, etc. i am SO ON BOARD. (basically because i'm bored and this is like homework review for me, and i'm a sick, sick person.)
i am SO EXCITED.

on 2007-08-02 08:44 pm (UTC)FAQ would be a GREAT idea. Thing is, though, I am now pretty busy, and I really can't do it myself. If you did it, though, I would be majorly grateful. Like, even more than I am already. *g*

on 2007-08-02 09:12 pm (UTC)The rare fandoms are a great idea! I think it might be a good way to draw the literary fans out of the woodwork...
Now. I go and face HP. If I don't come back you can have all my books.

on 2007-08-03 06:49 pm (UTC)If I weren't going away tomorrow, I would do it myself. Alas, 8:30am train requires packing tonight and going to bed early.
On a different note, there's stuff in the comments here (http://copperbadge.livejournal.com/1382792.html?nc=10&style=mine) which would be useful for anyone trying to write post-DH Remus fic to be aware of. (Hint hint.)

on 2007-08-03 12:20 pm (UTC)I think everything's already taken - the prompts I wanted to use are claimed, anyway, and I don't really have time to tackle a ficathon right now - but this is an amazing idea, and brilliantly assembled. You are simply too much, ma'am. I can't wait to read the finished products. :)
