So! I update, only to ask a favour of you all! I suck!

Sigh. Put briefly, for reasons of joy and squee and OMG - more on which anon - I am going to be in the States over Easter. Some of the time, I'll be with family in Connecticut, but from April 6th to 9th, I will be in New York City, again for reasons of joy and squee and OMG (OMG!!) and I need somewhere to staaaaaaay! I was meant to be staying with one my cousin's friends at Columbia, but this has fallen through pretty spectacularly.

So. Does anyone know somewhere fairly cheap and studenty in Manhattan or round about where I can lay my head for those three nights, or alternatively, anyone have a floor I can sleep on with an owner I can buy dinner? (Yes, very bad sentence.) Any advice is much appreciated.

(And I have already cadged a place to stay in London so I can fly out from Heathrow. Yes, I am shameless. [livejournal.com profile] shipperkitten: I didn't mention this earlier, but I really do owe you on this and will, at least, buy you dinner to go with my unending gratitude.)

Thank you all. And now I really must go to bed, for I really do suck.

Hostelling International New York (http://www.hinewyork.org/). Right near Columbia, and quite decent apart from the fact that I had to share a dorm with a religious nut case (who, one hopes, is not still there).

Thanks! (And indeed, yes, I'd hope not!)

(1) OMG OMG OMG!!!

(2) ...I don't suppose I could ask my friend to house all three of us, huh? Hmm. Here's the thing. Meredith's and my plans are not yet set in stone, mainly because my friend who offered a room still has to run it by her roommates. But it seems silly, now that you don't have a place, for us to stay in separate places, doesn't it? I wonder how cheaply we could pull off a hostel with three of us chipping in....

*goes to look*

Argh, complicated! Um, tell me if you don't find anyone, and we can go from there.

1. OMG OMG!!!!!

2. ...argh, complicated is right! I really wouldn't like to bugger up your existing arrangements. My plans falling through have left me in a bit of a situation, though. (Argh. Maybe I should just hide in your friend's bathroom for three days.) Aaaargh. Okay, let's think. It would be great if we could stay together somewhere, especially if we could pull it off fairly cheaply. The question is, where?

And really and honestly, if finding somewhere new doesn't work, you and Meredith should keep to your original plan.

I'm assuming a hostel would be our best bet for a cheap place that could possibly house all three of us. I browsed the link from above last week, actually, and it's really surprisingly affordable. For example, I checked available reservations from April 6 to April 9 (see here (https://reservations.hinewyork.org/iqreservations/)), and staying in a four-bed female room is only $35 a night (progressively less the more beds in the room). The only problem is they don't seem to be offering three beds together for 4/6-4/9. But I can call them up and pursue that if it seems like our best option.

[livejournal.com profile] ra_sar also suggested the Manhattan Inn Hostel (http://www.manhattaninnhostel.com/wfrm_rates.aspx) to me, which is slightly more expensive (around $40 per night for a four-bed room, less for more beds). But there might be a better chance of getting three beds together (it's hard to tell because I actually have to try to make the reservation with my credit card in order to see if it's possible).

Those are the lines I'm thinking along right now. What do you think?

I think either hostel sounds good to me, and once converted, prices sound good to me too. I reckon that if Meredith thinks so too, this would be the way forward, and would have the advantage that we'd stretch out more of our brief time together.

Hey you! [livejournal.com profile] gamesiplay said that you guys are coming to NYC in April, and oh man, so exciting! If you're still looking for a place to crash in New York City, might I remind you that I live here? In a very hip little area of Manhattan, no less. *grin* The apartment (and I use that term loosely, since it's basically a dorm room) is rather small and I do have two roommates, but you are absolutely welcome to stay with me. I mean, I've known you since the days of MASH slash and yahoogroups mailing lists. That's old school.

If you've already got a place to stay, I hope you'd still like to meet up for lunch or drinks or something while you're here. It'd be good times!

We're okay on the accommodation front now, I think, but thanks so much for offering. (If you ever come to Oxford - and hell, you should - come and stay with me, do!) But YES YES we must meet for lunch or drinks or something. We're around from the 6th - 8th. It should be fab.
