I seriously considered updating last night with just "...whoa, palm trees."

Seriously. Palm trees. Actual palm trees with waving green fringes and, occasionally, fairy lights. Outside there is a low, warm wind, twenty-five-degree heat and bright sunshine. I left home at four am in the howling wind and rain, and I walked out through the front gate, looked out towards the sea and I remember vaguely noting that the fog was so thick that there was nothing but blackness all the way down. And I had no scarf and was very bitter about it. The change is just amazing. I suppose I know intellectually that not everywhere in the world has the same climate, but it hadn't quite registered that there can be beautiful sunshine in December.

Anyway, where was I? Leaving home at four am, and I gave Claire a ring on the way and listened to her babble tipsily at me about her night in the pub - it amused me later than neither of us questioned what the other one was doing up at four in the morning - and arrived at the airport in a flurry of rain and more fog. I flew out via Heathrow, where we spent four hours and and drank gallons of coffee, and onwards on a surprisingly comfortable flight. I slept through most of it; I only woke up as the plane made a graceful descent across the Atlantic coast. It was really rather lovely.

So, I am here, but the rest of the oncoming hordes arrive tonight, and I fully expect chaos on the horizon. I went out this morning and had lunch with [livejournal.com profile] heidi8, who is awesome (and I love the way fandom and LJ literally mean you have friends everywhere you go) and told me a bit about the place, but I'm still somewhat discombobulated; I think part of my head is still wondering where the frost and fog went.

It's half three, which means the first of the hordes will be arriving shortly. Argh. Must go. Love you all lots, and have just realised I will be missing The Sarah Jane Adventures. Boo!

Hope you're greatly enjoying Florida. :)

(This is Jessica, formerly of [livejournal.com profile] julianelupin. Hello.)

I wanted to ask permission to friend you, because I've got a new, kind of low-profile LJ, and you're lovely and fun and I miss reading your adventures and thoughts. Things were crazy this summer, although I think they're better now - but I know I was kind of rude, and I'm sorry I didn't stay in touch. So... is this okay? If not, I understand.

Hello, dear. It's nice to hear from you again. Of course you can friend me - I'd like to read about your further adventures again, too!

(sorry I didn't reply before - just got back to regular internet access today.)

Oh, good. :) It's okay - I figured you were busy having travel adventures and stuff. (Sushi with eggplant? Wow.)

I'll catch up with you when internet access isn't $24/hour... until then, travel safely. :)
