raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (xf - facepalm)
[personal profile] raven
I am writing a fic at the moment. It is that nasty fic with both sex and plot. Said plot does not require it to be set in any season, at any time of year, so I have decided to set it in January, and have spent several minutes crafting loving descriptions of a clear, starry night, with air so close to freezing it hurts the lungs, a night too cold for snow.

Jesusgod it's hot in here. About thirty degrees, according to the BBC, and I can believe it. The shop today was quiet, shady, and absolutely stil. The books and the glass hold heat, becoming a dimmed pool of stillness and heat and cranky customers.

Sigh. It's too hot to do anything, least of all write unwilling sex scenes. (Unwilling on my part, that is, not the characters'.) I can't write smut. I just can't. It is an inherent failing I have. But this story actually requires it for plot purposes.

Anyway, none of that was the point of this. [livejournal.com profile] ka_crow, [livejournal.com profile] the_acrobat, [livejournal.com profile] thecapitalc - anyone, in fact, who speaks French - could you perhaps tell me what's going on here? All the English in the post is from my review of Army of Ghosts. Am I being plagiarised or MSTed or something else entirely? Many thanks.

(Also, yesterday I uploaded a lot of Indigo Girls songs for [livejournal.com profile] gamesiplay, and so the uploads don't go to waste, here:

Virginia Woolf
Hammer And A Nail
Fill It Up Again
Tangled Up In Blue (Bob Dylan cover)
Dairy Queen
Galileo
All That We Let In
Touch Me Fall)

I'm still looking for a studio edit of Land of Canaan, if anyone has that.

And after that post of disjointed weirdness, I'm going to bed, where I shall not sleep because it is omg a million degrees.

You're not being plagiarised - s/he mentions that it's by you a few lines before the quotations begin (you can see "loneraven" in the middle of all the French). The post, as you probably can guess, is about the last episode of Doctor Who and what this person thought of it. S/he says a few things (mostly that it was too painful and s/he's too emotional to watch it again) and then quotes your bits, with her/his comments on your comments in italics afterwords. S/he sometimes disagrees, sometimes agrees with your assessment of the episode.

Although I can't quite figure out why she'd quote your review in that length. :)

It can't be nasty, not with the way you write.

I hope you're not still mad at me. I did try to explain what I meant and it came out all wrong. I spend a lot of time with my foot in my mouth up to the knee lately. Good thing I'm not a horse or I'd have foot and mouth disease (foot in mouth disease?) by now.

Oh, no, no, please don't think I'm mad at you! I wasn't really to begin with anyway. I'm just really bad at answering comments!

(Hope you're having a nice afternoon, and please don't think I'd hold a grudge against you of all people. *g*)

Good to hear!

Sometimes I put my foot in my mouth and then swallow it up to the knee :P

30 degrees really isn't that bad; but you do live in the UK, I suppose... my friend has just come over to visit and apparently you're in the middle of a heat wave that's cooler than the average temperature in Switzerland lol.

'Je rapelle juste que j'ai piqué ça a Loneraven mais je crois pas que ça interesse qui que ce soit-_- et mes commentaires sur son sommentaires est en italique'

I remind you just that I've nicked this from Loneraven but I don't think that interests anyone, and my commentaries on her commentaries are in italics.

So no :)

Yes, and with its being higher than average, there is no intrastructure to deal with it. (Also, my job entails heavy lifting. It's all bad.)

And thanks for the translation!

God, I wish it were 30 degrees C here. I physically cannot linger in the sun right now; I have to stick to the shady parts of the sidewalks when I walk to and from work, or it's unbearable.

Thank you again for all the songs. TOMORROW NIGHT EEE.

I dare not ask how hot it is for you. (I walk to work too, and it hurts.)

For the past two days it's been anywhere from mid-nineties to 100 degrees F, but according to weather.com the "Feels Like" temperature is consistently about ten degrees higher. I'm just glad the humidity's only hovering around 50% right now, or it would be DEATH. Apparently we're on Code Red heat advisory until tonight.

*waves palm branches in optimistic manner* According to a handy online converter, it's about 100 degrees Fahrenheit here, too. Also my job entails heavy lifting! Quelle horreur, etc.

Apologies for this. She is... from France? And so doesn't speak like me and this is wayy colloquial, but I think this pretty much captures it. I started out trying to reproduce the punctuation and train-wreck spelling and grammar, but gave that up pretty fast... Hope it helps!

Ohh, it's about 30 degrees here, too. And no air-conditioning. Groan.

No more before Christmas??? but that’s madness! how will I survive without my Doctor and without DT??? *cry*
it’s too disgusting!!!!
plus … aaah this last episode is so sad at the end…. I think this is the first time I’ve been so shaken up by a TV series!!! I was almost crying as much as Rose and understood her pain so well…. aaah frankly I don’t think I’m ready to see this episode again…. too hard, too much emotion, and to see the Doctor cry… ahlalaaaaaa

but first a little review of Army of Ghosts, the next last episode… I don’t have the heart to talk about the last… I’ll do it come day, promise… I remember that I snatched this from Loneraven but I don’t think anyone’s interested in that -_- and my comments on her comments are in italics.

Wow. That was really, really good. not so much in my opinion.

No, it really was! I didn't like the prologue very much - I thought it was a tad schmaltzy - but I think it might shift into context after next week's. We shall see. But for now, stuff I liked specifically about that one:

-Jackie kissing the Doctor, heee. And he's such a boy about it, wiping it off disgustedly. Heh.
arf I don’t get what that one has in her head… kissing MY doctor when even Rose didn’t do it… not in her right mind, let’s say…she ought to have kissed him like that!!!
-the ghost effects. I thought they were marvellously creepy, especially as they look all elongated and naked, like full-size versions of the Roswell greys. yeah I agree
-the montage on television that the Doctor flicks through! I liked the flashes of Hindi - understandable Hindi, at that! - and Japanese interspersed with Trisha and Peggy Mitchell! It was so, so note-perfect and well-observed. yeah lovely...but I don’t think that we have so many foreign channels on cable… and he was lucky not to find any adverts!!!
-the two Torchwood minions, Gareth and Adi, having their little clandestine rendezvous, and Yvonne letting them! pfff I found that a pretty stupid, frankly… it was a bit too Camera Café. (Meredith: what is Camera Café?)
-Yvonne in general, in fact. What a good villain - irritating, subtly menacing (Her saying, "Oh, yes," when the Doctor asks if he's a prisoner was pretty creepy), and with amazingly bouffant hair. And with moments of humanity, like above where she approves of Gareth and Adi.
yeah, she’s so good at playing… first class sluts!!!!too [??] and all…really we hate her ^.^ (apologies, conflicting dialects, translation failure *hangs head*)
-In fact, the Torchwood Institute in general. I like the bright white light and the glass, all very twenty-first century, juxtaposed with imperial units and scary imperialism!
yeaaaahhh sure.
-The Doctor explaining that Rose looked into the Time Vortex and aged herself fifty-seven years. Heh.
hahahaha that was the best part! and Jackie’s face!!!! teehee ("Jackie's ugly mug" might capture the spirit of it more)
-the Sphere. I think that's a great idea - something that doesn't exist, and creeps everyone out in the process. I love the concept of things that subconsciously make people frightened, and this was a great take on it. Again with the funky juxtaposition - I like this sinister artefact juxtaposed with Rajesh, who is so bored he's on Su-Doku book no. 509.
I didn’t notice the sudoku book!!! but it’s true this idea of the Void, of ‘inter-space’ is really well used and very appropriate
-the computer saying "Online" at the start of the Ghost Shift. I just like the details.
that’s right, top-notch technology details

-the Doctor's explanation of what the Void is. The mention of hell was intriguing - Satan Pit reference? - but it really got me when he cracked the glass. Surprisingly for Doctor Who, this makes sense. Of course, it makes sense as in the hairline-cracks-in-reality-oh-so-bad-science type of sense, but still. The shattering glass is pretty damn good.
YEP!!!and so cute when he's explaining
-MICKEY! Oh, lovely, lovely Mickey, defending the earth! Rose is a bit useless in this - although he does try - but he is just marvellous. The reveal that "Samuel" is him - look at that grin! - is the most marvellous part.
hmmmmm it’s true that I adored Mickey’s return… he really seems to have finally found his place and to be happy with what he’s doing…
-"They're dead." Before, the Doctor wouldn't have killed them like that, even if he did apologise. This is a newer, ruthless Doctor. I like it.
yeahhh
-the Cybermen! All over the world! And killing the newsreaders! Ohmygod so good.
hmmmm...really scary anyway
-And the Daleks are in the Sphere! Ohmygod.
ooooh yeah the Daleks!!!!!

Consider it fair trade for all those wonderful songs.
Also: Are you renting/borrowing/do you own the X-files you're watching, or can it be downloaded online somewhere?

Hee, I am an evil enabler. *g* Sadly, I own them. Amazon.co.uk are doing them for a ridiculously low price - £12 per boxset, I think - and I'm indulging myself with my bookshop money.

hello!
I'm the one who "plagiarised" your post about doctor who.Actually I'm not good at writing review or stuff like this and I got so emotional after viewing Doomsday I couldn't write anything good.I searched on the internet and when I read your post I thought it was a great one,I agreed with most of your lines,in a word I liked it! so I used it and put my own comments in italic.I didn't thought you 'll find it because this journal is entirely"friends only"(and I've got only 1 friend)

I know there's a ljseek.com or ljfinder.com but as far as I know they're not supposed to show friends only entry, are they?or did I missed something about the privacy policy or whatever?

Anyway, please tell me how did you find my post???
I'm getting a little bit paranoiac ~_~

Hello, there. My apologies for casting aspersions - as you can see, my French-speaking friends rapidly corrected me, and of course I had no objection to your commenting on my review.

As for how I found it - I imagine ljseek.com. It only finds public entries, so I can only suggest that it was public when I found it? I certainly didn't do anything special - as far as I'm aware it was a public post.

that's weird because I'm sure I've never posted something "public"...maybe a small failure from ljseek...
anyway, keep writing nice posts on LJ :)
