The Tenth Doctor ficathon
Jun. 21st, 2006 09:49 pmSign-ups are now closed. Assignments to come shortly, I hope.
It's that time of year again, folks. I promised I'd do this last year, and now I give you:

"I'm so old now. I used to have so much mercy."
-the Tenth Doctor, School Reunion
Welcome to the Tenth Doctor ficathon, a gen, het and slash ficathon where all fic is welcome - so long as it features our beloved Tenth Doctor in some shape or form.
Sign-ups begin today, June 21st, and run until June 28th. I hope to have assignments out by July 1st at the latest. Stories will be due in a month, on July 31st, 2006. I will post a masterlist on my journal (
loneraven) at midnight BST where everyone can comment with links to their fics.
If for whatever reason you sign up and can't make the deadline, the thing to do is to tell me. I won't be pissed off if only you tell me, so I can assign a back-up author and your recipient gets a story and everyone's happy. If you then get your story to me later, everyone's even happier. Just let me know.

Three things you want in your story
One thing you don't want in your story
One thing you'd rather not write
Can you be a back-up writer?
Here's my sign-up, as an example:
Your name and LJ name: Raven (
loneraven)
Your email address: iona.raven[at]gmail.com
Three things you want in your story: Ten being ruthless, gen, ghosts
One thing you don't want in your story: explicit romance
One thing you'd rather not write: smut
Can you be a back-up writer? yes
All stories submitted must have Ten in them somewhere. I'm willing to be flexible over this - if, for example, you want to see what happens to Sarah Jane and K9 after School Reunion, but Ten doesn't actually appear, that would be acceptable, as would a story about one of the members of LINDA, or the adventures of Mickey and Rose whilst the former was a companion. You get the picture. What wouldn't be acceptable would be a story about, say, Nine and Rose on Satellite Five.
Edited to add: Minimum word count is 1000 words, and you can write as much as you like above that.
Also, regarding old-skool requests, which some people enquired about - I've thought about this, and, well, whilst I don't object in principle, they make assigning requests very difficult. If you want to make a specific old-skool request (e.g., Ten/Romana, a cameo from Tegan, etc.) that's fine, but I won't be able to ensure your assigned author will be familiar with that bit of canon. If they are, then that's good and they'll write it for you, but if they're not, then they won't and you'll lose one of your three things. It's your call whether you want to make the old-skool request to start with. And of course, if you get an assignment that asks for something old-skool that you don't know about, then just produce a story based on the prompts that you can write.
One last note to the Yanks among us: if you don't want to be spoiled massively for season 2/28, then I recommend you don't sign up, as I'm sure many fics will have spoilers.
I think that's it. If you have any further questions, post a comment or email me at iona.raven[at]gmail.com. In the meantime, get signing up!

Three things you want in your story A historical setting, the specs, one of the old companions (in any form; a mention would do, and it's not essential)
One thing you don't want in your story Overt Ten/Rose (subtle is okay, declarations of love and inappropriate uses of the sonic screwdriver less so)
One thing you'd rather not write Inappropriate uses of the sonic screwdriver (metaphorical or nay)
Can you be a back-up writer? Why the hell not? THE CRAZY IS CONTAGIOUS. (Although is my plan to work two jobs this summer comes through, I will have to decline the second story - I'll let you know.)

Three things you want in your story: Mickey as the Doctor's companion. A party. Snarky interaction with an undercurrent of genuine regard/friendship would be lovely.
One thing you don't want in your story: Rose - don't care if it's AU, or she's at her mum's, or she's present but offstage.
One thing you'd rather not write: NC-17
Can you be a back-up writer? Yup

Three things you want in your story: Ten making some sort of difficult decision, painful memories, someone comforting Ten after he makes choices.
One thing you don't want in your story: Death of a main character, if it's at all avoidable (If it's not, that's okay. Just rather not. ^^)
One thing you'd rather not write: Smut
Can you be a back-up writer?: Possibly. Put me down as a 'last resort'? I can't promise I can back up, but if you need someone urgently, I'll give it a go.

Three things you want in your story: Ten/Rose/Jack or Ten/Jack (if there's no Rose in the story), PLOT, kissing
One thing you don't want in your story: "Liek, OMG, don't use words like 'glorious passage!'"
One thing you'd rather not write: I'm up for pretty much anything plot-wise, but as I'm not familiar with Doctor Who previous to the new series, I really can't include any reference to previous seasons.
Can you be a back-up writer? I'm willing to try, just send a quick e-mail to make sure that life hasn't taken to beating me up first.

Three things you want in your story:
1. The strange little impulse, the voice in the Doctor's head that says "go on, go on, go over, go on..." (You can attribute whatever meaning or significance to it you want, and don't have to explicitly reference the quote -- just seeing that impulse in action is enough.)
2. Someone with a gun or some other projectile weapon.
3. A moment of homoerotic subtext (or hey, even text) between two characters (your choice).
One thing you don't want in your story: Character bashing (especially not of Rose).
One thing you'd rather not write: PWP (although shippiness or specific pairings of some sort are more than fine).
Can you be a back-up writer? Probably not, unfortunately. This summer is kinda crazy.

Three things you want in your story: Ten ♥s the TARDIS, Ten and Rose's intense friendship, the horse from The Girl in the Fireplace.
One thing you don't want in your story: Sex.
One thing you'd rather not write: Full out relationships between Ten and Rose. Others are okay. (Also I'm kinda new to Doctor Who so I don't know canon pre-new series beyond the basics yet.)
Can you be a back-up writer?: In dire emergencies, yes.

One thing you don't want in your story: liberal amounts of sappiness
One thing you'd rather not write: smut, I'm a major fluff-bunny with no talent for "Tab A into Slot B".
Can you be a back-up writer? Sure.

on 2006-06-22 12:16 am (UTC). Is this so a) people can request fics, b) people can tell you what fics they're writing and write lots of them, c) you can pick people to write fics for other people, d) something else which I haven't cottoned on to.
I can't seem to work it out. I know there's a lot of writing fics involved. :D

Three things you want in your story: Ten being slightly dangerous, a discovery in a historic location that's long since been destroyed, something revealed about the Doctor's past
One thing you don't want in your story: fluffy romance. It can have romance if you want, but no kittens and puppies and rainbows and sunshine, please. ;)
One thing you'd rather not write: anything overtly angsty (it may work its way in anyway, but if I start with that as a requirement, my soul may die).
Can you be a back-up writer? no.

Three things you want in your story:
"You alright?" -- "I'm always alright"
The Doctor stroking bits of the TARDIS.
The Doctor cautiously refraining from saying something unpleasant that's obvious to everyone else.
One thing you don't want in your story: Grammar and spelling so bad that it breaks the flow.
One thing you'd rather not write: I'll have a reasonable try at writing anything. Familiarity with the canon won't be an issue, for the most part.
Can you be a back-up writer? Ask first. It depends what else is going on at the time.
