raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (misc - winter)
[personal profile] raven
I uploaded this for [livejournal.com profile] purplerainbow not long ago, and as not to waste the upload, here 'tis:

Indigo Girls - Watershed. It's a good song, an old favourite. And while I'm at it:

Coldplay - Talk

This hasn't been a single as far as I know - I've taken it off X&Y - and oh, my, it's beautiful. Has a world-filling, epic feel to it. Lovely.

Ryan Adams - Dear Chicago

I've been listening to this whole album a lot lately, and this is an executed-in-two-minutes slice of perfection.

Pulp - Disco 2000

Ahem. I blame [livejournal.com profile] tunedinto1973.

David Bowie - Life On Mars

Yes. Because. And now every time I hear it, I now to burst into tears for no reason, because it's true: they only play it at the really desperately sad bits. Waaaah. Why are the seventies such a good decade for fandom crossovers? I have a strange desire to write fic where Sirius, Remus and James go to a Brian Slade concert and meet Giles and Ethan and a young Daniel Jackson who help them gatecrash a party hosted by Anthony J. Crowley, at which point they all get arrested by Sam Tyler and Gene Hunt for indecent exposure and the Doctor and Rose have to save the day.

[Edited to add: Have just rememebered that Daniel was fourteen in 1979. Maybe he hitched a lift with the Doctor and Rose....]

Um. Moving on. I'm looking for these, if anyone has them:

James Blunt - You're Beautiful (shush)
James Blunt - Wise Men
Placebo - Without You I'm Nothing (because I have no idea where mine has got to)
John Lennon - Imagine (again, because I'm lost mine and Pedar is complaining)

Anything at all by Cream or Eric Clapton, except The White Room and Layla.

Comment if you like 'em. *g*

"Talk" seems to have been a single out here -- or at least the radio stations I listen to have picked up on it. Yesterday I heard a remix of it on the local dance station while driving home from the drugstore, and was vastly amused to see someone dancing down the street to whatever was playing through his headphones in exact sync with the beat of what I was listening to... I'm choosing to believe we were listening to the same station. ;)

Taking all of them - thanks :).

That crossover description has me salivating - you are going to write that, right?

Not the songs-- my connection doesn't like yousendit this week, for reasons best known to NTL or God or daffodils or something-- but about crossover fic and music: I'm wondering if the Life on Mars/Doctor Who crossover shouldn't be a songfic structured around the lyrics of The Timewarp. Think about it... you know it makes sense...

Re. your fic description: the pairings are Sirius/James, Giles/Ethan, Daniel/Remus, Rose/Lily and Crowley/Doctor, right? Or is it more the orgy thing?

Gleee! That's wonderful! I love people who aren't afraid to dance down the street to the music in their heads. Because I never do this. No, never. *g*

The crossover idea is being saved for when I'm feeling very crack-addled. As it happens, a good friend, [livejournal.com profile] lilka has already written at least the Sirius and Remus meet Brian Slade and Giles and Ethan part (http://lilka.livejournal.com/92558.html). :)

OMFG DO IT! DO IT NOW!!

I'll help?

Seriously. OMG. This idea makes me want to use capslock a lot.

Who are Sam Tyler and Gene Hunt? They're the only ones I don't know.

You're welcome, love. *g* The crossover idea, as I've said above, is being saved for when I'm feeling particularly off-the-wall, and in the meantime, you could try this (http://lilka.livejournal.com/92558.html). :)

Doooooo eeeeeeet. Seriously. It would be So Much Love.
Also, you have me listening to Different Class now which I haven't done in so long I almost feel bad for snatching the CD back from my sister before I moved out. Oh Jarvis. Suddenly I'm 13 again.

*g* Oh my, what have I started? If I ever feel sufficiently loopy - which happens quite often - I will.

Sam Tyler and Gene Hunt are the ones in this icon - Sam's the one on his knees :P - and they're the main characters in the BBC series Life On Mars. They're policemen. They will Thoroughly Disapprove of the above goings-on.

I'm picturing you wailing on an air-guitar even though it's not an air guitar song.
"Let's meet up in the year 2000..."
Well, why don't we then? We can get the Doctor to take us.
I just realised that when I used to listen to this song, it was long before the year 2000, and now it's 2006, and I feel OLD.

Also, Daniel Jackson could be someone's adorable kid brother? Or some kid that Remus likes because he's bookish and brilliant and brings along? Or maybe he's just there and it's never explained but it makes sense anyway because it's Daniel? I don't see why a fourteen year old *wouldn't* go to a Brian Slade concert...

Umm, my sister has the album.

(Also, i was talking to a friend the other day, who knows someone else in Balliol doing PPE! I think he was called Sam, and had some funny double-barreled surname, i didn't quite catch it.)

What I actually came over here was to comment on your LOM fic which you posted yesterday, which I thought was wonderful. Lovely characterisation and I adored the ending. If the series ended like that I wouldn't be sorry. I also approve muchly of the crack!fic summary above, and would be most disappointed if you never wrote it!

I don't know what you've started, but you've certainly started something. Perhaps the world will implode because there is just TOO MUCH SQUEE in one fic.

Seriously. We have to do it. I'm in the middle of posting a post where I tell people to press-gang you into writing this.

Also? Giles and Daniel can bond over Oxford-ness. (Self-indulgent, I know.)

Gah. This is too good an idea to let go.

Can we do it together? I know you'll have lots of work and stuff, so we could write it together, get other people involved as well and do it round-robin style?

*bounces* C'mon. We have to write this bitch.

I only know him very very slightly through debating - he organised a competition in Cambridge last year which I attended (Hills Road) - and he is friends with a good friend of mine (Tara, ginger - I don't suppose you know her? She's not an undergrad: she's doing a DPhil at St Anthonys, so on balance I guess not), so I've been at parties with him and stuff. Eeee, that's so exciting! Now I'm trying to think of other debaters you might know, but I've never clocked their colleges ...

1. It makes me dance round rhe room. So glad no-one else was home today... *g*

2. It does indeed! It is the song playing on Sam's iPod as he gets hit by the car. Actually, all the songs played in the show, including Disco 2000, have internal and external significance. By far the most creepy of these is "Live And Let Die" used as the main theme of an episode where Sam's life support is failing in the outside world... *shudder*

3. I am an' all. 2000 words down!
