raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (Default)
[personal profile] raven
I was going to write about what happened last night, but [livejournal.com profile] jacinthsong has done it far better than I would have done, with photographic evidence and everything. Still, in brief: Queer Drinks, Sky returning from Noodle Bar laden with food, [livejournal.com profile] sebastienne leading a chorus of Under Your Spell, lots of sitting on [livejournal.com profile] jacinthsong's lap, [livejournal.com profile] foulds telling his tutor all about his sex life, Hassan's, Broad Street after dark, Jon, Dr. Morison and a lot of slash.

Not so briefly, I will limit myself to saying that she's perfectly right: this is the most wonderful, anarchic, richly historical, intellectually stimulating and beautiful place in the world. I am gloriously biased and I'm loving every minute of it.

In other news, I am feeling a mite peculiar tonight. I feel feverish without the fever, if that makes sense; I have a funny taste in my mouth and I'm swaying when I walk. I don't really know what to make of that. But I had to write my essay, so I churned out 2000 words of total shite on French citizenship and globalisation, and went to Claire's. Sky was there moaning about Goodman and grue, Pat was putting off a management essay, there was general laziness. Sky disappeared after a while in favour of grue, and Pat followed to make him feed her cream cheese. The big news is: Sky and Pat are together. Finally. She told me yesterday before Queer Drinks, and I had to fight to look surprised! But I am so, so happy for them, and they make such a pretty couple. It's shallow but true. More seriously, last night at three am when I was curled up in Claire's chair, Sky was muttering sleepily about grue and there seemed an equable silence, we gave him the talk about, y'know, he even thinks about hurting her and we will...

He interrupted. "If I ever think about hurting her I will kill myself with a shovel."

Just so that's clear, then.

Today and tonight they have been being mildly couply, and it's rather nice. Only a few months after I swore never to let two of my friends date again, as well! But they are love. They really are.

The other news of the night is our housing situation, as we are finding it an impossibility to find someone to share with us. The only taker so far is a mysterious girl who doesn't seem to like us. I have arranged to meet her tomorrow, but in the meantime, I spent the time in between conversations tonight compiling a list of twenty reasons you might not want to live with us:

two practising and sort-of practising Hindus
practising Roman Catholic
two girls who drink a lot
two more girls who drink moderately
four poker players
four arts students
excessive amounts of comedy racism
three people who swear like bloody fucking sailors
two Indians, one Russian, one Brazilian, and one Irish
girl who leaves rotten meat in sink
another girl who doesn't do that but is pretty close and has fifteen
unwashed
spoons at any given time
two night owls who only encourage each other
geeky, geeky, geek girl
girl with terminal stress problem
girl who watches Bollywood movies
three girls who listen to lots of loud music
bisexual girl
girl with boyfriend
girl with boyfriend who is queer and Sikh
gay girl with non-male-identified boyfriend

Tomorrow, Claire is arriving at half ten to sleep in my bed whilst I go to lectures, we're meeting mysterious housing situation girl, I have to run round to Social Sciences, go to Philosophy tute on grue with Sky and Jordan, and then I'm going to London! Pedar is meeting me and has promised to buy me dinner. I'm looking forward to it.

And, and, and: Primark opens in Oxford tomorrow. Life is perfect.

Has Sky been told that he's got the part yet? *beams*

Awwwwwww. :)

Does your last person have to be at Balliol?

*g* Sadly, yes; the college would throw fits otherwise.

It is very pretty!

(Won't see you tonight, sadly. Am being rather lax about badminton this week!)

It certainly seems unattainable... *g* Seriously, if it works out, it will be fab.

I can come to England and live with you!

...okay, maybe not.

From looking at his research topics, I think I'm in love with one of your slashy professors. Is Pooley as pretty as he is in the picture (http://users.ox.ac.uk/~ball0402/pics/op4.jpg), or is that one of those "20 years ago when he was AT the Uni" kind of pictures? XD

Oh, no, Pooley is probably prettier in real life. Sky's lecturer evaluation form included a considered assesment of just how attractive he is!

You're not alone in that. Trust me.

I think it's terribly funny that you've got people from another country crushing on your lecturers.

Heh, me too. It still amuses me that "morison/pooley" is a listed interest on LJ!

So when do I move in?

... in all seriousness, your entries these days are making me grin like nothing else. I am glad of this: this is the most wonderful, anarchic, richly historical, intellectually stimulating and beautiful place in the world. I am gloriously biased and I'm loving every minute of it because I didn't want to be feeling all warm-fuzzy about it if warm-fuzzy wasn't really the way should be feeling.

Whenever you like, sweetie!

You're right, I'm feeling very warm and fuzzy about life at the moment. It may not persist, because of economics from next week, but I can't let myself believe my happiness depends on economics! Life is good. *g*

I would like to reserve my place in line, too. I have no idea where I'm going to be living next year, but I'm sure England would be fine. :)

By the way, I have a Kenyon friend (who also happens to come from my county back home) who's going to be studying at Oxford next year-- Mansfield? I'm not very familiar with that college. Anyway, it made me smile.

Hee! The door is open for you to move in whenever you like.

Now here's the ironic thing: our little flat is in Jowett, off Mansfield Road. Your friend is going to be around the corner! Seriously, go ahead and give him/her my email address, if s/he's interested; I'd be happy to share notes ahead of time, so to speak. *g*

Planning to write 'The Grand Sneer' - a sizzling epic following young!LordRust, young!Vetenari and sundry others in divers alrums as they go sightseeing (this IS actually canon).
1. Is there a canon map of discworld or can I make it up as I go along?
2. I know Lady Margolotta of The fifth Elephant is invloved, anybody else?
Thought your friends list might be helpful
