I'm going back to Oxford on Monday. Buggery fuck and hell. My to-do list is getting ridiculous, but it needs writing down because otherwise I will forget everything on it.

Before Monday
-repack clothes, or what remains of clothes. (Try not to think of worth of what's lost.)
-repack books (or what remain... etc). Switch books have already read for books have not already read.
-go to Pritchard's to pick up last order, or else give shop address in Oxford for posting.

Noughth week
-do all Philosophy background reading. EEEEK.
-do partial derivatives long questions, ignoring optimisation as am total loser.
-Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - write 2500 words on sociopolitical/colonial conflict in French Fourth Republic. Note to self: Find out what French Fourth Republic is. May be helpful.
-do preparatory work for General Philosophy tutes with Bob. (DO NOT CRY AT PROSPECT).
-acquire £50 from somewhere and put it on Bod card, or else will starve.
-see Brokeback Mountain? If have time, money, energy etc.

First week
-get out of bed before midday more than twice per week.
-GO TO LECTURES.
-find out when philosophy tute is, and go to it and really really, don't cry
-Friday: go to French politics tute.
-Friday: turn nineteen? Might be good idea.

Misc
-go to [livejournal.com profile] ou3fs meet, if is one.
-squee over TCI with DocSoc, if at all possible.
-seriously consider other ways to supplement income in absence of paid employment.
-get very, very, very drunk, as am nearly twenty and hopeless human being.

Also, while I'm here, I have a lot of new friends and, um, hi, it's really nice to meet you, and I hope you stick around. I'm actually having flist issues at the moment. My flist is too big. I've trimmed it in the past, and got rid of the people I didn't want on it, and now everyone on it is someone I feel I know, not an anonymous username out there in the ether. So it's not getting any smaller. And in fact, I want to make it bigger to accomodate all the lovely new people. But that is absolutely not a possibility, because I spend so much time on my flist already and will you look at the above list?

So I am having a dilemma. I could, I guess, add everyone and then make a new default view, which is, imho, teh evil, because I'm a firm believer in the philosophy of my entire flist being in my default view or why even bother, etc. I really, really wish LJ would let you read your flist all the time, but make a friends-of page that you made an effort to read when you had the time.

Groan. I want to go to bed. Or be someone else. I haven't quite decided.

Buggery fuck and hell.

My very sentiments of the moment. I steal above phrase and make it motto for at least a week, yes.

At uni I read what I could and people had to understand that if I didn't reply it was because eljay couldn't be my life anymore. Thankfully, most people were fine with that.
Also, I must apologise for going eljay mad while I've been off work... I was undistracted for too long :D

Argh. I posted a long comment and LJ ate it. Buggery. To recap:

- Your 0th week looks horribly familiar. *cries, hugs*
- Do you know if anywhere in Oxford is actually showing BBM?
- I am a loser who did not take History and thus trying to remember anything about all the French Republics makes me cry. All I remember about the Fourth is vague notions of it being mostly known for the governments not being able to manage decolonialisation and the stuff Camus wrote about Algeria, which is the sort of general knowledge that has barely helped me with essays at all so far. :/ /most pointless comment ever
- re: finances, I have started asking my mum how much clinics pay you to donate eggs...
- *hugs*

-*sobs, clings* Why PPE? Were we drunk? Stoned? Something else entirely?
-Not a clue. Meant to find out. Is on to-do list!
-Am loser who didn't take history either, and has no idea what you just said.
-am considering writing bad lesbian porn and submitting to any old rag. Seriously.
-*hugs*

When are you back in Oxford? Want to meet for ice-cream or coffee or something?

We're all insane. There should be diagnoses and a spectrum for us. *nod* Also, Ionaaaaa why are houses so expensive?

Me neitherSeriously, all I know is that the executives were generally unstable (mentioned as being because of the constitutional setup but knowing Oxford essays you'll find eighteen million counterarguments to that). I sometimes think I have learnt nothing this term, we're covering Germany instead of France but I have a horribly persistent vision of opening the Prelims paper and being unable to remember anything about US politics. Camus rocked, though.

Bad porn actually sounds like a good idea, which may be a sign of how low I have sunk. Under a pen-name though, unless you want Crazy Bob (did I tell you that our Politics tutor matter-of-factly refers to him as such) or your immediate family to read it. :P

We are insane. Just think, we could've been historians! Or people who do English!

I doooon't know! Why are they? (how much? dare I ask?)

Regarding Prelims, I know nothing about anything. I plan to pass by 1%.

God. I'm actually really considering it. The problem is that according to Google I'm the only person in the world called "Iona [mylastname]", so yes, pen-name!

Also: Bob is a CRAZY CRAZY PERSON and he makes me cry, dammit. If he ever yells at me I will burst into tears on the spot. (Hell, when he told me to go home for Diwali I nearly burst into tears on the spot.)

*plans to drag Laura out of Wadham and force-feed ice-cream*

Well, we're looking at three-bedroom houses/flats around Cowley Road and I'm slowly moving further away from the city centre as I realise how much it costs. Cheapest I've seen so far has been £290 per person per month on the Bullingdon Road, though £300-320 per person seems to be the average - some friends are currently living in a flat two minutes walk from the Plain for £317, which is lovely if tiny and which we may fall back on. I knew I should have applied for one of the posh colleges with full accomodation :/

Retail Eyes (http://www.retaileyes.co.uk) is sometimes good for being paid to go to pubs. You just have to ensure that you're drink's served correctly.

Argh! Your schedules are so different from ours; I can't have normal class work over the break, because my semester ended and I'm going back to entirely new classes. So you take the same courses all year? My sympathies.

All I remember about the French Fourth Republic is... that it was the one set up after France was liberated during WWII. I'm familiar with French history only up to WWII, which is pathetic. (Actually, I am familiar with most European history only up to WWII. I'm good on Russia and the rest of Asia, though! Not that that's helpful now!)

I'm not going to have postal access until the fifteenth at the earliest, but: is there anything you want for a belated present?

I was going to be self-sacrificing and say, "If you need to prune the flist, I can take it!"--but then I realized that, no, I couldn't take it. :)

Technically speaking, I take the same courses for all three years. I wish I was American. Well, I don't. But I sort of do. Waaaaaah.

I get the feeling that because you did IB, you know a lot more about most things than I do. Actually, your education system is eminently more sensible than ours is, except perhaps the bit about medicine being a postgrad degree.

Hee, I don't know! Because of LJ, I get more post than just about anyone else in college, so... maybe a letter? Your letters always make me squee. Also, also, there will be a big bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk winging your way once I'm back in Oxford. Is your address still the same? And is there anything else you want?

Pruning you off my flist? I'm shocked that you could say such a thing! *clings to you in manner of barnacle* Never.

Try being really almost twenty. One month and some days away. *shivers* Rather worrying, really.

Perhaps have two lists, one for the people you know and the other for the rest of the posts. Or one for people and one for communities. Not as default view, just as ones to look at quickly.

There is FEAR. I want to be a teenager my whole life, dammit!

The thing is, I have to watch the comms I mod, and none of the others are very active, so it doesn't make a difference. I'm not entirely sure what to do.

I know. Am going to be an adult... and I'm not one. Am rather scared.

Perhaps have one for just the modded communities, and then another for the bare basics of flist... and one for all the others that you can check over, given time.

...Though that sounds horribly complicated.

I'm a firm believer in the philosophy of my entire flist being in my default view or why even bother, etc.

My flist's default view is all the *people* on my friends list, but not the communities. That's what I've been using it for for years.

I thought about it, but then realised it wouldn't make much difference, because I have to watch the comms I mod and none of the others I generally watch are very active. I'm still not sure what to do.

Can you cope with an addition to your 1st week to-do list? If I were to be in Oxford on Sunday 22nd, would you like to meet up for a while? (Will be nearby with parents anyway.)

Sunday 22nd is technically second week, and for that, my to-do-list is empty and my time is yours. I'd love to meet up for a while and chat and be fannish and do generally non-stressful things.

Excellent! I will discuss the plans in more detail with the parental units, but I think we should be free by about 2pm, and in Oxford 30-40 minutes later. There's apparently an interfaith exhibition at the Ashmoleon about pilgrimage which mum would like to see and I think dad wants to wander round the town and see the tourist bits, so it should be easy to dump them (unless you want to either see the exhibition or play tour guide). So we can chat and be fannish and unstressed to our heart's content, or at least for a few hours.

heya, just to be an evil bastard and add more things to your to do list but I'm no good at geography but i'm guessing Oxford is quite near Reading and if you'd like to meet up and be freaked out about the difference 7 years has made in people and what we were like in 3rd form etc, that would be really really lovely.
If you don't want to, no worries!
either way, here's my email address so we can try the contact thing over something that isn't LJ!

thanks!
