raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (doctor who - we are beyond time)
[personal profile] raven
The college is open to the public today. It's the first time since I've arrived here, and as I assume it's the same across all of them, a word to the wise: do not, if you can help it, stand for too long framed by the college doorway. I did it this morning, idly sorting through my post, and when I looked up a gaggle of Japanese tourists were happily taking pictures of me. There were more tourists in the garden quad. I'm hoping never to get over the fact I live here.

Talking of post, I've been having rather a lot of it, and all very interesting, too. A postcard from [livejournal.com profile] amchau - thank you! - and a letter from [livejournal.com profile] hathy_col, not intended for me but for our mutual friend. It has been delivered. My favourite so far has been the post-it note adventures of girl!Doctor, Jack and Rose, anonymously sent. The postmark should give it away, but it's too blurred to read. Whoever you are, you're a star.

This afternoon, I ran a few errands and ended up at G&D's (it's an ice-cream place) for the [livejournal.com profile] ou3fs meeting. I met lots of people, including [livejournal.com profile] jacinthsong, [livejournal.com profile] chains_of_irony, [livejournal.com profile] kuteki, and [livejournal.com profile] potatofiend among many. There was much squee. It leaves me with a dilemma; on Monday night, the DocSoc meeting and Queer Drinks at Corpus are at the same time. I really can't decide what to go to. (Are all university Doctor Who societies called "DocSoc"? It seems like it.)

Of course, I may not go to either having expired from work. I have thirteen chapters of Intermediate Microeconomics, accompanying assignments and all my Logic to do before Monday evening. See me cry. I've spent all afternoon working (and missing out on Serenity! Waaah.) and will probably have to do the same tomorrow. And then Monday is full of lectures, as are Tuesday and Wednesday (although I hope to make time for lunch with [livejournal.com profile] me_ves_y_sufres), but on Thursday, my parents are coming to visit! I'm really looking forward to seeing them; they'll only be here a day, but it'll be nice.

Urgh. More Varian and consumer choice and boring utility functions and stuff like that. And because I'm terminally indecisive, a poll.

[Poll #586121]

Dinnertime.

Edited to add: Oh, arse. Just got a sweet email from the president of the LGBsoc asking me to pre-Queer-Drinks-drinks at Oriel. If I don't go I'll feel so guilty.

Re your poll: I had the same dilemma and went with the equivalent of the Queer Drinks option. I had a ball.

I cannot comment on whether or not my alternate self who went to the Whovian evening had a good time because she is in a different quantum reality.

You shall, at some point after the new year, be getting a post card from moi. See, that's when I get my liscene, and putting a postcard in a mailbox next to my driveway where the neighboors can see me putting it in and then go over and open it just creepy! Of course...it's possible that extreme paranoia talking, but anyway. *cough*

(that was really ramble-y, but blame it on the peppermint mocha)

Also, blame the atrocious spelling of "license" on the mocha too. And, the point of that was, when I get the damned thing I can drive to a post office and mail the postcard there!

I do blame it on the mocha, trust me. :)

I'd love a postcard! *bounce*

We're going to see Serenity tomorrow. Also, I was going to send you a letter this weekend but Sam wrote a bit and it was impossible to read (I thought it said something about nymphomaniac gorillas and a juice bar), so I'll send it next week.

And I have no idea what Intermediate Microeconomics is, so I'm just going to nod and smile...

I don't care, I'm dying to hear from you! Have fun at Serenity, think of me! I miss you all so much.

And I have no idea what Intermediate Microeconomics is

What makes you think I do? *cries*

We miss you too! So does Mr Evans, he's got no-one to talk to.

And, umm, you should probably figure out what it is soon. Might be important.

On an unrelated note, I was writing an essay and I wrote impotent instead of omnipotent. Zeus was having a little problem...

Yeah it's now four pages of a rough book, er...sorry Iona.
It's mad and rambling but I think it's amusing....plus I drew you a manga angel on the back for no reason but it's pretty.
Saw Alice and pink ninja in town today, Alice thought she looked Jewish with this hat on so she took it off. And I'm going to be using the blood pellets you gave me for a fancy dress costume.
I'm hoping they don't go out of date.
We had mufty day yesterday, I wore my kitty jumper with cat ears and Ellie had to change as her pants had rips. As did many or they would be sent home.
So same old same old over here lol.

One of my friends was photographed by some Japanese tourists at her interview because she looked the quintessential Cambridge student... and she now appears to be receiving the same insane amounts of work as you. *big huggles for all Oxbridgeites*

Although your logic page is at least amusing...

It's not possible, dammit! Even if I didn't eat or sleep until Monday night, there is still no way I will finish all this and absorb it. Why do they need eight-week terms? Why not eleven-week terms like sane people?! Grrr.

Sorry. Didn't mean to rant at you. Bob, my logic tutor, is a funny guy. Terrifying, though. :)

1) Go to the LDBT thing, it willbe more fun. CSFS is fun, but. Seriously.

2) Relax. You are teh cl3v3r chix0r, you will be fine even if you don't read every word of every book. You'll do far better on half book and sensible sleep than on all books and no sleep.

3) You seem to be settling in: good. I'm glad [g]!

I don't know which one you should go to, but tell me and i'll go to the same one. if I'm alive. freshers week is killing me :/

are you free tomorrow? i missed the meeting today because i had to meet the principal (although i'm an eejit so i completely missed my meeting and had to sneak in with the medics) but i don't know that i'll be able to come tomorrow either as i;m meant to be meeting my (college) parents. Again. Though i don't mind, because my mum has offered to let me steal her law essays :D

Wow, you have logic lessons. That's so cool! /random

So, yeah, let me know and I'll maybe turn up, if I'm not curled up in a pathetic ball demanding soup and painkillers. Mmmm, freshers' flu and a hangover, lovely.

GACK! Even at a real college, I never had to do that much work --- not even as a graduating senior! Your universities and colleges must have more exacting standards than they do here.

I am, by the way, perishing from envy that you're at Oxford. That is THE place all English majors dream of going some day and I shall never see it.

I wish our campus had social activities like that but it's really too small. Maybe when I go to university I will have the chance to socialize a bit with the local GLBT chapter. In spite of having a husband, I'm not exactly predisposed toward the male gender otherwise.

I'm still looking for the perfect postcard. I'm thinking of either carrying the hunt down to St. Augustine or simply doing a snapshot with the camera of me and mine to send to you.

It's Oxford, that's what it is. We do the same amount of work in eight weeks that all others do in eleven weeks. Hence the craziness. (And who says you'll never? One of the law freshers is sixty. It's so cool.)

One of the benefits of the collegiate thing is the cosy little social events in a university of 17,000 people. Queer Drinks are inter, though, so a good mix of people.

And I'd love the snapshot! I'm not entirely sure what you look like and a face to the name would be fab.

Do the LGBT this time, since you got the invite, then next time go to DocSoc. I've two piles of different society leaflets -- one of thing's I'm trying in 1st week, and one of things I'll try as soon as I have no other clashes.

Because if it was all easy, it wouldn't be so much fun. I think I might have seen you today, with some other girls in the centre of Oxford. I only caught a glimpse though, and I didn't want to say anything, as I wasn't really sure, and I didn't want to look like a total prat...

I'm glad the postcard arrived. :) If I were you, I'd go to the pre-Queer Drinks, the Queer Drinks, and then *plan* to skip out early and turn up at DocSoc late, apologising and blaming work. Probably, of course, Queer Drinks will be wonderful and you'll skip DocSoc this time, but there'll be a next time and if Queer Drinks is dull or whatever you'll have a back-up plan.
