Japanese tourists
Oct. 8th, 2005 05:57 pmThe college is open to the public today. It's the first time since I've arrived here, and as I assume it's the same across all of them, a word to the wise: do not, if you can help it, stand for too long framed by the college doorway. I did it this morning, idly sorting through my post, and when I looked up a gaggle of Japanese tourists were happily taking pictures of me. There were more tourists in the garden quad. I'm hoping never to get over the fact I live here.
Talking of post, I've been having rather a lot of it, and all very interesting, too. A postcard from
amchau - thank you! - and a letter from
hathy_col, not intended for me but for our mutual friend. It has been delivered. My favourite so far has been the post-it note adventures of girl!Doctor, Jack and Rose, anonymously sent. The postmark should give it away, but it's too blurred to read. Whoever you are, you're a star.
This afternoon, I ran a few errands and ended up at G&D's (it's an ice-cream place) for the
ou3fs meeting. I met lots of people, including
jacinthsong,
chains_of_irony,
kuteki, and
potatofiend among many. There was much squee. It leaves me with a dilemma; on Monday night, the DocSoc meeting and Queer Drinks at Corpus are at the same time. I really can't decide what to go to. (Are all university Doctor Who societies called "DocSoc"? It seems like it.)
Of course, I may not go to either having expired from work. I have thirteen chapters of Intermediate Microeconomics, accompanying assignments and all my Logic to do before Monday evening. See me cry. I've spent all afternoon working (and missing out on Serenity! Waaah.) and will probably have to do the same tomorrow. And then Monday is full of lectures, as are Tuesday and Wednesday (although I hope to make time for lunch with
me_ves_y_sufres), but on Thursday, my parents are coming to visit! I'm really looking forward to seeing them; they'll only be here a day, but it'll be nice.
Urgh. More Varian and consumer choice and boring utility functions and stuff like that. And because I'm terminally indecisive, a poll.
[Poll #586121]
Dinnertime.
Edited to add: Oh, arse. Just got a sweet email from the president of the LGBsoc asking me to pre-Queer-Drinks-drinks at Oriel. If I don't go I'll feel so guilty.

On an unrelated note, I was writing an essay and I wrote impotent instead of omnipotent. Zeus was having a little problem...

on 2005-10-08 07:23 pm (UTC)It's mad and rambling but I think it's amusing....plus I drew you a manga angel on the back for no reason but it's pretty.
Saw Alice and pink ninja in town today, Alice thought she looked Jewish with this hat on so she took it off. And I'm going to be using the blood pellets you gave me for a fancy dress costume.
I'm hoping they don't go out of date.
We had mufty day yesterday, I wore my kitty jumper with cat ears and Ellie had to change as her pants had rips. As did many or they would be sent home.
So same old same old over here lol.

In which I overuse italics.
on 2005-10-08 07:21 pm (UTC)Sorry. Didn't mean to rant at you. Bob, my logic tutor, is a funny guy. Terrifying, though. :)

3) You seem to be settling in: good. I'm glad [g]!

on 2005-10-09 12:04 am (UTC)are you free tomorrow? i missed the meeting today because i had to meet the principal (although i'm an eejit so i completely missed my meeting and had to sneak in with the medics) but i don't know that i'll be able to come tomorrow either as i;m meant to be meeting my (college) parents. Again. Though i don't mind, because my mum has offered to let me steal her law essays :D
Wow, you have logic lessons. That's so cool! /random
So, yeah, let me know and I'll maybe turn up, if I'm not curled up in a pathetic ball demanding soup and painkillers. Mmmm, freshers' flu and a hangover, lovely.

on 2005-10-09 12:36 am (UTC)I am, by the way, perishing from envy that you're at Oxford. That is THE place all English majors dream of going some day and I shall never see it.
I wish our campus had social activities like that but it's really too small. Maybe when I go to university I will have the chance to socialize a bit with the local GLBT chapter. In spite of having a husband, I'm not exactly predisposed toward the male gender otherwise.
I'm still looking for the perfect postcard. I'm thinking of either carrying the hunt down to St. Augustine or simply doing a snapshot with the camera of me and mine to send to you.

on 2005-10-09 10:36 pm (UTC)One of the benefits of the collegiate thing is the cosy little social events in a university of 17,000 people. Queer Drinks are inter, though, so a good mix of people.
And I'd love the snapshot! I'm not entirely sure what you look like and a face to the name would be fab.
