raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (doctor who - paris)

It is much too hot. Stupidly, it is now raining and getting overcast all over the place but is still too hot, so I am beginning to wonder whether someone up there is getting it a bit wrong. I want a sea-storm, with the rolling clouds and flickering lightning and lots of rain pooling at the bottom of the garden. I hope they have good storms in Oxford.

Talking of a bombardment of positive ions, I have been watching the discs [livejournal.com profile] doyle_sb4 sent me and having a lovely time over the good bits of The Five Doctors. There seem to have been two versions of it, as the one [livejournal.com profile] hathy_col and I saw had totally dire effects, but the DVD version seems to have been remastered a tad. Also, the stock footage from Shada is different. Still, the whole thing is worth it for woobified!Five, and it actually is very much fun for an episode that basically consists of all the Doctors in a quarry where all their best enemies can take potshots at them.

The rest of the discs are a bit of a problem. They play just fine on my old desktop computer, but audio only on Loki. What does the ancient Windows ME computer have that brand-spanking-new Loki doesn't, I wonder? It would make sense just to download codecs as prompted by the media player, but the laptop hates the internet and the internet hates it back. Sigh. I suppose I shall have to make an extra effort to make it all work, as I'm taking it with me, but I'm feeling lazy.

That said, I have Done Things today. I have ordered books and been vaccinated and opened a bank account (eep, am Grown Up) and deposited cheques into it. It is all very much of the productive. I am going out tonight for a Pritchards mass exodus night out, or something, which I'm not really in the mood for but as I'm part of the mass exodus, I feel obliged.

Also in the spirit of productivity, I ought to write my Minor Characters ficathon story, as I suck and haven't written a single word of it. I shouldn't sign up for ficathons. And the university threesome fic is eating my brain in addition.

I have produced a short atrocity for [livejournal.com profile] dw100 this week, as the challenge was "Sherlock Holmes" and too good to pass up, but other than that, fic eating brain.

Sigh. Bored. That said, if I were still at Merchants', I would be going back to school tomorrow! There are always small mercies.

IONA.

Right. Remember the Ninth Doctor Ficathon? Remember how LJ was going all screwy and wouldn't let me post for a really, really long time?

Okay, well I emailed you my fic instead. But, obviously, I don't know if you got it or not. And I was just going through the list (procrastinating? me? never.) and didn't see it.

So if you never got it/posted it, I feel really bad for whoever I wrote it for. Let me know and I'll post it ASAP.

No, I never got it! Oh, no. Please do send it to me again and I'll pimp it mercilessly.

My new PC wouldn't play anything but audio either - you might need DivX? That fixed them for me.

So glad you're enjoying The Five Doctors, I love that episode (as I think I burbled about in the episode list).

Ah, good idea. I have DivX on the computer that is actually playing them, so I'll do a bit of transference. Thank you again; I adore the Five Doctors for the unashamed crazy, and I'm looking forward to finishing off the others. :)

I love the Master for once telling the truth and none of the Doctors believing him, and the woobieness of Five (like the hand-holding in my icon) and the fact that Two and Three can't be in the same room together without turning into antagonistic children. And, aww, Susan (though I wish Five could have had some reaction to seeing her rather than looking vaguely attracted. That disturbed me. *g*)

Oh, the hand-holding! *melts! So sweet! And so slashy!

I rather think Four and Five would have loathed each other as much as Two and Three. Maybe it's the adjacent ones who really have it in for each other.

I do wish there had been a proper reunion between Five and Susan, like there is in the Target. The look of vague attraction gets me, too. :)

It gets worse when you see Kinda and several other Five episodes and realise he seems to have a thing for dark-haired women of a certain age...

It is rather disturbing. I think the First Doctor should've said, "Stop leering, young fellow. She's your granddaughter, remember?"

I shall have to type out the bit from the Target, as it's quite different from what's on screen. (Maybe a deliberate attempt to get away from the crazyandwrong attraction?)

Hee. I have to wonder if anyone ever asked Peter Davison what the heck he thought he was doing, giving Susan the eye!

Yep, DivX should do the trick. Either that, or try a different media player - sometimes they get cranky.

Also, the stock footage from Shada is different.

Really? Hmm - I have the Five Doctors DVD, and awhile back I watched an old VHS tape of it, and I don't remember differences, but then again I barely knew any of the old school stuff when I saw that version...

::wishes for a DVD of Shada::

Well, as far as I know it's the last bit of Shada footage we see, when Rassilon sends them all back to their timelines, which is different. In the VHS, it's Four on the floor, bouncing up and then getting his scarf trapped in the TARDIS door; on the DVD, it's just the two of them punting again.

Oh, that bit at the end! That makes sense. (Too bad, though, because the bit with his scarf in the TARDIS door is hilarious...)

I think there may have been 3 versions of 5 docs? Theres the one they show on UK gold (the original), the one I bourght on video in an anneversary box set (better effects, and oddly enough, as the end credits close up at the end of episode four, they appear again and start going backwards (music and all) - which amuses me no end!), and they had another crack at it for the DVD maybe.

That sounds a possibility. Although perhaps the anniversary and the DVD version are the same...

They might be, I'd have to get the DVD copy to find out. Actually *blush* I forgot, Kibble got me the DVD last year and I gave it my brother because I already had 2 VHS copies!
Either way, the 5 doctors is forever going to be ruined for me - since I read an online fanfic called "The all singing, all dancing, 5 doctors pro-am caberet extravaganza" by Matt clifton. That was... interesting. And very rude. Oh yes. He went through the whole of the 5 doctors and did silly things :D
Yes, I shall resume being weird over there :D

there's a group of us headed to oxford in october. I've been a member for a few months. I realised you weren't a member after a discussion about shoebox...and how we need an oxford shoebox appreciation group! You don't have to join, I just thought I would recommend it as it's nice to be in touch with other people going through the same worries etc.
