Two drabbles
Apr. 26th, 2005 08:10 amTwo Doctor Who drabbles (although one is actually a 250 fic that got away from me slightly).
Snippet (gen, G, Doctor&Rose)
Rose said no, in the end. There was her mum to look after, and Mickey, who loved her, and she couldn't leave them. She said goodbye to the Doctor and that she was glad she'd met him, which was true, and then she gathered up her small family and took them home.
A year later, she'd moved out of her mum's flat and in with Mickey. He’d asked her to marry him first, but she laughed and told him to ask again in a couple of years. But she moved in anyway, cleaned his sink and threw out his gherkins, and he told her he’d never been happier in his life.
When it re-opened, she got a part-time job at the new improved Henrick's; she spent her mornings at the local college studying for her A-levels (she’d picked English Language, History and Physics) and worked in the afternoons.
One night, near closing, a man with a Scottish accent came into the shop. She sold him a pair of gloves and a long striped scarf, and he stared at her so long that she was just ready to say sorry, I'm taken when he asked, "What's your name?"
"Rose," she said.
"Right." He nodded before turning to leave.
She couldn't help herself. "What's yours?" she called after him.
He paused for a moment, and there was something familiar about his eyes. “Theta,” he said, and then he was walking away. She tried calling, but he didn’t come back.
The Death of Theta Sigma (gen, G, Doctor&Rose)
Theta Sigma has been dying for a thousand years. With each new regeneration, he fades a little; but behind elderly eccentricity, Bohemian rapture, leather-clad modernity, he remains.
He is a rebel, a renegade, an angry young thing with an axe to grind against the universe; he stole a TARDIS and brought it to Earth; he was forcibly regenerated by the Time Lords; he rose again to rebel again; he interfered. He did good.
Only here, at the end of the world with Rose, it is different: Gallifrey is gone and with it the rebel's cause. Theta Sigma is gone, too. Only the Doctor is left, and he feels old.
Meh. I should go to school now.
