I had a lovely day out today. Jane, Louise, Hannah and I, out in Liverpool for the express purpose of doing nothing. We ate sandwiches and talked about cheese. Cheese as curds and whey, cheese as a product of curds and whey, cheese as a dessert, cheese with peas, cheese as a fandom fixation (“I wear the cheese; it does not wear me”) and cheese as fudge.
It took the fudge to break me.
Then we left, wandering out into Liverpool in the direction of the Bead Shop. I was gathering things together for
gamesiplay’s parcel, for which Hannah was very helpful, but I’m not saying what we actually got for obvious reasons. Suffice it to say much fun was had, and after the Bead Shop we wandered out of Quiggins and went to Worlds Apart.
On the way there we sang. A cookie to the first person to guess what we sang exactly. Jane and Hannah sang one part, I sang the other, and Louise put her hands on her ears and walked steadfastly in the other direction.
Worlds Apart is geek heaven. It sells all variety of fandom paraphernalia, including such wonders as calendars, action figures and what seems like every comic ever published. Hannah and I both spotted a life-size cardboard cutout of David Boreanaz as Angel, which wouldn’t have been amusing if someone hadn’t put a hat on it. And later on, when we were walking down past Lewis’s, we noticed that the nude statue on the top of it has been decorated – he’s now wearing a pair of boxers with “Liverpool 2008” on the front. There was giggling, and general musing about whether or not they were staying there until 2008 itself.
After that, coffee was had. And discussion, and general musings on life and school and fandom in general. One thing that did amuse me was on Thursday – Hannah and I went back to school on the same day, came home and posted LJ entries within five minutes of each other, with very similar “back to school” subjects – only, hers is happy bouncy yay for school, and mine is total despair at the prospect. It’s all the more amusing if both entries appeared next to each other on your friends page, as they did on mine.
I was quite sorry to come home in the end, although slightly amazed at where the time had gone. Jane gave me a plot bunny on the way home, which I should do something with, and apart from that, I’m watching Buffy. I lent my season 4 DVDs to Hannah, so definitely no prizes for guessing what she’s doing tonight. I’m pretty sure I know which episode she’ll watch first, too.
I spent most of the evening standing with my head out of the library skylight, looking out on the garden as it got darker and talking to
amchau. I educated her about lichens. Whoo, yay.
So this is September. It’s going well. Touch wood.

on 2004-09-04 12:44 pm (UTC)Last night, I had a dream with you in it. It was very, very strange. I wonder how much the version of you my subconscious has constructed resembles reality. ;)

on 2004-09-04 12:53 pm (UTC)That shop sounds really cool - we have one like that in Colchester: Ace, or Ace Comics, I've never been able to work out which.

on 2004-09-05 02:48 pm (UTC)The shop is cool, mainly because of the people. I never had you pegged as a geek-type person, though...

on 2004-09-05 12:15 am (UTC)There were, Severus decided on the second day of term, three kinds of students from a teacher's point of view. There were those who knew nothing, and they were like the kind of lichen that falls off a tree when yu touch it. Then there were those who knew a little and thought they knew a lot, and they were the kind of lichen that you had to pull off the tree; and finally, there were those who knew quite a bit, and it took a knife to get them off the tree.
The trouble was, they were all lichen. And Severus didn't like lichen much, useful though it could be in certain potions.
I. Blame. You.
