The Dark Age

Last night was mostly spent talking to amchau. The Dark Age figured.
Well, squee. Of course I was going to love this episode. hathy_col hinted at it a while ago, telling me I’d like it, and then the full moon party featured the least subtle hints ever, but they didn’t manage to spoil me. So, Giles has a dark side. I’m impressed and rather amused. What a gloriously weird dark side to have, too – he was into demonic possession as a means to get high? Having no better word to describe it, that is just cool.

I think my favourite moment of the whole episode was Giles addressing his mirror. “So, you’re back.” Such a simple remark, and initially I took it that he meant Ethan, which he might well have done, but he’s talking to his reflection. Equally, he could be talking to Ripper. I just liked it.

Another thing I liked - the blatant sexual tension, of course. The idea of slashing Giles didn’t initially appeal to me when amchau told me about it – but Ethan Rayne definitely changes that. Their interaction is very much of the slash – the fact they’re usually intent on staring the hell out of each other goes to substantiate this view, plus the whole weight of shared history thing, and I rather like the fact they were having the same dreams at the same time.

Mostly, the pairing makes sense to me. I only write pairings that do make some sort of canonical sense, and this does to me at least. Should be fun. And it will of course all be amchau’s fault. Icon is of Ripper!Giles, of course. If only I could make the icon small enough to include the guitar...
