First of all, I was watching Stargate last night - Lifeboat - and while I liked it and may review it at a later date, one thing did stick in my mind. One of Daniel's multiple personalities was a second-class engineer called Tryan - and I immediately started jumping up and down and yelling, "Rimmer! It's Rimmer!" After all, not only was he obseqious, cut-glass British, he was dead! Rimmer!

Sorry. It amused me.

I went back to school today. Three weeks of relative idleness tends to turn my brain into mush, but today really wasn't bad. It didn't start well, as my mother and I had something of an argument, but I eventually got into school and managed to catch up on three weeks' worth of gossip before nine o'clock. Becca has been into school every day this week, for revision and rehearsals. The AS Theatre Studies practical is on Friday, and I realised I had to make a confession. I won't be able to see it 'cause I'm going to a convention.

Thankfully she took it fairly well. Talking of the con, [livejournal.com profile] hathy_col and I have just been discussing it. There will be emails all round.

The day, then. I had to go to Politics first, which wasn't particularly interesting (although Mr Evans is entirely too happy about the whole David Beckham affair thing) and spent my free writing a small treatise on Why I Want To Read Medicine. It took me a very long time, because lies are harder than truth. While I'm on the subject, I got an Oxford prospectus in the post yesterday. I want to go so much. So much. In almost childish fashion, I want it. Which is annoying because this is one area where I can't afford to be remotely childish - if I want it, I have to work for it like grown-ups do.

But going on with that would be depressing, so I won't.

Today again. Maths-for-science - not nice - and Chemistry, which amused me. Anyone who remembers a certain fic of mine will also remember the Saltpetre Conspiracy Theory. Anyway, in inorganic chemistry we are currently struggling through reduction using silver halides, and Mrs Colvin asked me, "Iona, do you know what bromide was used for?"

I shook my head. "Clue?"

"In the army. For the soldiers. With urges."

"Soldiers with urges are a bad thing," put in Rola (resident denizen of the CCF) sagely.

"Ooh!" I said. "Like saltpetre! In their coffee!"

"To reduce their libido?"

"Yeah! Like saltpetre."

"Iona, saltpetre is an explosive. It won't reduce a soldier's libido."

I couldn't help myself. "It depends where you aim it."

Cue sniggering from the peanut gallery. I actually addressed them as the peanut gallery later on, but none of them appeared to have heard the phrase before. ("I believe she's likening you to monkeys.")

So, it appears that it should have been the Bromide Conspiracy Theory. Oops. Anyway, I laughed a lot, listened to Fidan's elaborate plans for us all going down to Oxford for an open day, and following that lesson, I went home. English was cancelled.

And here I am, fairly happy, slightly hungry, and I need to wash my hair. Things are fairly good in the world of me.

just been reading through your journal (it is a very nice distraction indeed) when i found all sorts of references that sounded exactly like my saturdays. nice to come across other people on here who like to wander aimlessly through liverpool. though "aimless" probably isn't the right word, must admit the thought of a saturday wandering round town with friends that i haven't seen all week is one which keeps me going. ah, glad it's friday.

well, think i'll read a few of your old updates, inquisitive as it may be. i found you through afrai, by the way.

Ah, I'm glad you're enjoying my ongoing rambles - it's nice to know someone is. :) And you're in Liverpool? Cool. Wandering round town is all I do, after all. *waves out of window*
