My journal is called _____ because _____.
"A stately raven from the saintly days of yore." This is because, surprise surprise, there is an obscure, hardly-well-known-at-all poem called The Raven by an equally obscure poet and writer named Edgar Allan Poe. I just like the lyrical quality of the line, mostly. It mentions ravens and it's pretty.
My subtitle is _____ because _____.
"where the falling angel meets the rising ape." This is a quote from Hogfather (Terry Pratchett, Discworld) and I simply love it. It's such a poetic way of stating the dichotomy of human beings - so high-minded, moral, just, far-removed-from-the-animal-kingdom, and yet slaves to food, sleep and sex, just like everyone else. I could say it's my subtitle because my journal is a combination of high literary aspirations and food, sleep and sex, but in truth I just like the quote.
My friends page is called _____ because _____.
"Necrotelecomnicom." Another reference to Discworld (and Good Omens) but really a rather morbid joke. Necrotelecomnicom means, more or less, "The phone book of the dead," and as I use my friends page to keep track of most of my friends, the title just seemed weirdly amusing.

loneraven is a combination of Raven, my pen-name and nickname and general cool(er) name, and the concept of a lone wolf, which is what I have been known to call my single defining characteristic. The resulting username struck me as fairly pretty and easy to say/spell, so it stuck. I use it most places on the net, nowadays, although I have been known to use "single crow" instead.
