Jun. 13th, 2003 10:06 pmOh, my holy fucking god.
I've been browsing through ff.net, looking for Sirius/Remus pre-slash, and while I did find a couple of sweet, fluffy good ones, I also had the unfortunate experience of finding the following review attached:
"I find your "slash fiction writing" to be repulsive. Who, in their right mind, would write stories about heterosexual children's characters, and turn them into soft-core porn?! It's a bit disheartening to be lead to a site containing such filth. I find this to be extremely immoral and unecessary. Please, think about what you're writing before you do, and where you post your link to your works. May God be with you, so you don't have night after night of eternal hellfire."
Note - the fic had a PG rating.
I don't think there's anything I could add to that; I'll just let it stand, shall I?

on 2003-06-13 02:31 pm (UTC)...In all seriousness, I have to tell you, I think that Sirius/Remus is the most supported by canon, and further, the most likely to ever become text. (The sad part is, most of the fans of it are unthinkingly quite homophobic and they don't realise, because hey, they read and enjoy slash right (and of course most of their enjoyment of the pairing is influenced almost solely by the stupid fanon, but I'm getting off on a tangent.))
I happen to think that JKR damn well might decide to make a point, that these aren't "children's books" and are not bound by what is *makes quotey fingers* "appropriate" to "children's books", that they are in fact stories told to young hearts of all ages.
It fits what I've ever heard from and about her--she's got fiest and seems pretty damn cool.

on 2003-06-13 03:22 pm (UTC)Love is good. Love is right. And its physical expression is good and right too.
And if I was minded to, I could write something which captured that philosophy and turned it into fan-fiction.
Oh, wait, I did (http://www.livejournal.com/community/mash_slash/7497.html).

on 2003-06-14 02:07 am (UTC)1) They seem not to have understood that there will be some kids out there who, at seven or eight or however old, are gay. Some of them would be quite glad to be represented in 'children's' stories.
2) They seem... oh, why bother? You're right, don't answer. It's impossible to argue with the terminally illogical.

on 2003-06-14 05:08 am (UTC)Because - I think - it just won't occur to her, even though (of all children's novelists) she's certainly the one who could get away with it. (Diane Duane had a couple of lovely gay wizards in her early So You Want To Be A Wizard? books, but by A Wizard Abroad she'd hastily de-gayed them - I assume because the publishers had cottoned on and told her she had to.)
Even if it does happen, though, it will be minor characters: as for Sirius/Remus - get real.
Still, it is thoroughly annoying to find bigoted Christian scumbags posting in response to a slash story.
