raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (bad hair day [crystaldesire])
[personal profile] raven
I got home this afternoon to find my parents having a blazing row about something. Sigh. I lingered for a moment and slowly realised that said blazing row was about bidets. Given that I've spent the last few days re-reading Dr Jackson's Diary again, can you blame me for wondering if fiction was becoming reality?

I have thus far resisted the temptation of shouting, "You are so gay!" at them both, because a) they wouldn't get it and b) I really don't want to perpetuate stereotypes.

Today was productive. I got my hair cut. Actually, trimmed. It now no longer looks like I have rats' tails sticking into my collar and could even be described as presentable. It's so bloody thick that I never know what to do with it. I still think that getting it cut shorter was one of the best decisions I'd made in ages.

Moving on, then, I wandered round Southport for a bit and eventually wandered into Patrick, who called me Freudian (Freudian? Freudian?! It's all about the subtext!) as we wandered round Southport discussing who could out-geek who. I so win. I write slash.

On a more serious note, thank you to everyone who offered advice. It was much appreciated, and I think things are better inside my head. Not that it's ever been a nice place in there, but it's getting better.

In other news, I watched Stargate this evening. At least, I thought I did.

Well, excuse me for bitching. An utterly bizarre episode. Not only was Jack not in it (he was "recovering" - from what? Heroes part II?) but it took place entirely on Earth, without a glimpse of Stargate Command, let alone the gate itself. One of my main gripes about the show as it's progressed has been the way the concept of a stand-alone episode is getting more and more obsolete. This couldn't have stood alone if you'd propped it up with two sporks and a Goa'uld mothership. Can you believe, I managed to watch the entire latter half of season 2 without knowing who the Goa'uld were? Back in the day, of course.

I'm getting distracted. So, yes, utterly weird episode. I may be just showing my ignorance of seasons six and seven, but I got the feeling I was supposed to know who Agent Barrett and Dr Lee were. They're good characters, methinks; I particularly liked the ongoing dialogue between Teal'c and the supposed bomb disposal expert as they try and defuse the bomb. I also like the villain - damn, he was evil. And I'm not just saying that. He really did give me the urge to shout at the television, which can only be a good thing.

Daniel was nice and characteristic in this episode; so was Sam, and the mention of her boyfriend from Chimaera was a nice touch. But the overall plotline was a bit... well, lacklustre. Split personalities are cool. But we're used to that with the Goa'uld; lack of a snake isn't going to make it a new and fresh idea. I have to admit, I'm beginning to think that the whole idea of the Goa'uld is becoming... well, boring. The Stargate pilot, Children of the Gods, was good because of the issues it unleashed. But every subplot established then has now been dealt with - Skaara is de-Goa'ulded, Sha're is dead - and we've gone through System Lords like skittles. But we need new villains. Actually, I stand by the idea that the series should have ended at season 6. This is overkill.

This is becoming a rant instead of a review, isn't it? Um... good things. The drawings. The way-creepy, gothy drawings. I liked them. They were properly scary, and evocative of when the Goa'uld were scary. The girl, Anna, reminded me way too much of Sarah/Osiris, I think. I kept on associating one with the other, and that reminds me; what happened to Sarah? Another disappearing minor character, sort of like Skaara and Nyan and Loren and all the rest of them?

In the end, I suppose I didn't like this one much. The title, now - that was good. I always love trying to associate the episode titles with the reasons for them. Resurrection obviously referred to the resurrection of Sekhmet, but also to Anna's potential resurrection. Clever. Actually, episode titles are always good. The best one ever, in my humble opinion, is Need. Could refer to about half a dozen things. Think about it.

Okay, I'll shut up now. Hope next week's is better.
