Christmas shopping day
Dec. 1st, 2003 04:47 pmOne of the very few things I like about my school is the way it gives three extra days off each year, one every term. The one in autumn term is generally the first Monday in December, and informally known as Christmas-shopping-day. Every year, Becca and I actually do our Christmas shopping on the day - this is the fifth time we've done it. Not that we don't go shopping at any other time, but the fact it's a Monday makes it a teeny weeny bit special.
So, today. Actually, last night. I was attempting to write Vimes/Vetinari (actually, Vimes/young!Vetinari) with one half of my brain and trying to write poetry with the other, and so achieving the level of success that you might expect. At that point, my phone started buzzing and several layers of words collapsed inside my head. It was Becca, of course, wanting to go into town at 10.45. And she had underlined it. I was surprised. Then I went to bed.
Got up this morning at eight. It was my grandmother. No-one had informed her I wasn't going to school today, and so I had to explain it in sleep-befuddled-broken-Hindi. When everyone was sufficiently confused, I went back to sleep. I only got to sleep another hour before hauling myself out of bed again.
And off I went. Becca's zeal for Christmas shopping was a sight to behold. By the time I met her in Virgin, she already had two shopping bags, and was debating about whether or not to buy a poster of The Darkness for Thomas. We eventually decided in favour of it, and went off again.
From this point, it's going to get rather silly. I can't write about where we went next, and what we did, because I managed to get presents for you lot today, and while I suppose I could hide everything behind cuts, you're all horrible and would look behind them. I got presents for Becca, Hannah, Clare, Emily, Bev and Enid, and little things for Meg and Nicola, and just to tease, I got them from (in no particular order) Grin, WHSmith, Waterstones, Thornton's, Woodstock, Claire's, Next, River Island, and there was one present I had to get bits for from all over the place.
Sadly, I do know what Becca got me. She knew I wanted it, and bought it, but I won't say what it is because I'm trying to forget. Also sadly, Becca showed me her Christmas list, and she'd put the initials of the intended presents by each name, because she knew I'd see the list. I saw the initials "GBWR" next to mine, and on reflection, I think I know what those initials stand for (she says she's now going to get it for my birthday). Just to check I'm not being totally random, can anyone else guess those initials? I think I'm right; if someone else gets the same answer, then I'll know I'm right.
Something else for me to forget, then.
We managed to finish getting everything quite early, which is why I was home by four. I've got to revise Chemistry and also start writing my Christmas cards. Which will be fun, if you remember how I write cards.

Giant Bag of Walking Rubbers????
I don't know.
Actually, come to think of it, I do know, and you are right, but you are getting it for your birthday. Where is Becca, incidentally? She's never online, despite the Broadband. Please poke her for me, and tell her to get her arse online. I miss her!
And what did you get Emily? Because if you didn't get what I think you got her then I will have to use my brain and think of something, and that will make me cry...

Great. Wonder what I'll be having nightmares about tonight?
Ah, Emily. The eternal problem. Well, the truth is, I can't find... it. You know what. What I did get her is only little, though; it needs something added to it. I asked around in Quiggins for it, and couldn't find one. Is anyone likely to be going to the Trafford Centre in time for Christmas?

on 2003-12-01 02:03 pm (UTC)I would like to go to the Trafford Centre, if anyone is going. That is something for the Christmas hols. Or Chester. We could get there by train!
Either way, I need a Christmas shopping day. I know what I'm getting you, just haven't got it, but I don't know what I'm getting Becca, Clare, or many other people. Need help!!
Hmm.
I am pretty sure you are online, but am going to bed now, as I suspect that my current ailment is ear ache, which is destroying what pitiful hearing I had left...
