raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (doom [rouk])

Last night, [livejournal.com profile] shipperkitten sent me a frantic email. She wanted to get a customised t-shirt for [livejournal.com profile] osiris13's birthday, and particularly wanted a Discworld quote on it. I spent a happy half an hour harvesting quotes from all the books I had on me, but I couldn't actually go with her to get the t-shirt. My mother and I have had today planned for weeks - a day of shopping. We never go shopping together any more, so we had it all planned.

We ran late, of course. We always do. I'd only just clambered out of bed when Em texted me. The quote she'd chosen was "I AM DEATH, NOT TAXES. I TURN UP ONLY ONCE." I approved. So did Clare, who has just texted me as well.

With this pleasant thought to sustain me, I ventured off to Liverpool with my mother. We had a good day. We agreed on many things, didn't argue about anything, and although I didn't do any Christmas shopping as I wanted to do, I did buy things for myself. Well, I say I bought them; my mother doesn't let me pay for anything when I'm with her. She said she owed me lunch, and I agreed - last week she was going to buy it for me, and didn't - but she didn't have to buy anything else for me and yet she did. Which I liked very much. I am now the proud owner of a pair of black not-quite-baggy trousers and a long, heavy black cardigan/coat-type thing. I've wanted something like it for months and months.

The city was lovely and Christmassy. The lights have been turned on, and everywhere you go people are Christmas shopping. All the shops have their decorations up and it's chilly and bright and just wonderful. We went to Sayers, and I got a turkey 'n' stuffing pasty, which my mother ate half of, and another piece of gingerbread, which my mother also ate half of. She's a great person to go shopping with. Couldn't go to Quiggins (which was the main reason I didn't do any Christmas shopping!) but apart from that everything was perfect. She wanted to buy a pair of black trousers of her own, but decided not to because they "weren't exciting enough." She thought it surprising that I found that remark so amusing.

My parents are going out tonight, and taking my grandmother (again!), so everything would remain perfect, but I've only just been reminded that I have to babysit tonight. Thankfully there's only one child; his name is Alex and he's been sleeping through the night since the age of six weeks, and I really, really hope he doesn't wake up. I won't know what to do. I'm going to take my stuff and hopefully get some work done, but I'm so tired I'm falling asleep. It's been a long day and I'd forgotten all about this babysitting job. I took it for strictly material reasons - I need the money. I really do.

Well, I've got to go. Got to be there by seven. I don't want to do this at all. I don't like children!
