raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (werewolf slash)

Backdated.

The morning was Not Good. To begin with, I'd forgotten about Bev's party, and my own lack of transport and lack of enthusiasm for said party. Becca had texted, several times, my phone had run out of space for new messages, it was too early for me to be awake anyway, and to add further insult, the internet had stopped working. Well, not the internet in general. The internet on my computer. And Pedar's computer. I ignored it, rang Meg to beg for transport and got the answering machine, and when I couldn't put it off any longer, I took a deep breath and rang BT. They put me on hold for twenty minutes before telling me I'd rung the wrong helpdesk. They eventually shuffled me between four different departments, keeping me on hold for an inordinate time at each one, and then they cut me off. I eventually got it out of them that the problem is not my computer at all, but rather theirs. They're having problems at an exchange in Maidenhead. I have no internet. I have no internet three days before the fucking deadline for the fucking Fuh-q-fest. The fic will have to go in unbetaed, presuming I actually get the connection back at any point.

I was something of a mess by midday, and had to run around like a decapitated chicken trying to get out of the house in time for the train. While doing so, I broke my slashy happy people bracelet. It had reached the point where more things going wrong couldn't make me more stressed than I was already, and I just stared at the broken thread and beads with a generally woe-is-me expression. I didn't have time to restring them - I didn't have time to pick them up off the floor! - before I ran out of the door, hair flying everywhere. Yes. I had a visit from the menstrual fairy and a bad hair day on top of everything else. TMI there.

I didn't miss the train, surprisingly enough, and reached Central just about on time. I met Jane ([livejournal.com profile] lilka) about a quarter past one, and we were just walking out of the station, heading towards Quiggins, when I saw someone I knew. My mother, to be more precise. I ran over and stopped her, and introduced her to Jane, and once introductions had been made, we went on towards Quiggins, and bought beads, and Jane bought a Quiggins poster. Yes, the same poster that has John Lennon on it in scores of different places.

Following that, we didn't do very much. Not that we ever do, of course - I got a sandwich, as usual, so we sat in Subway and talked about things. Things being books, the differences between the Discworld Death and the one in Good Omens, and then Discworld in general, and also Isaac Asimov and his short stories, his Robot novels, and his unusual accomplishment of having had a book in every single Dewey Decimal category. Um... what else? Yes, the appeal of Snape, and why he is an interesting character as well as a greasy evil slimy one, and why some people like anime and others (ie me) don't.

I think we also went to Music Zone, and as I just bought that Goo Goo Dolls album (it turned out to be Gutterflower) I didn't buy anything. By that time, we had started talking about Velvet Goldmine and why it spawned glitterfic, and why Remus seems to fit the idea of being not a rock star, but rock notable cult figure, and heroin addict as per Ballyharnon's Of Linen. And then we had the usual Harry/Snape argument, and having dispensed with the mysteries of the universe, I had to get myself home. I'm not likely to see Jane again for quite some time. She's going to Warwick, and Louise is leaving too, as are Emma and Enid, and it's just not nice.

I got home at about four thirty. The internet was still gone. My net access always disappears whenever I gain a semblance of a social life.

To be continued, of course.
