raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (girl in blue)

One of the weird things that strikes me suddenly about [livejournal.com profile] contrelamontre is how whatever your poison, you can find it there. I don't know what it is. Anyway. This glorious, grey, wet, generally overcast afternoon, I am attempting to write and failing miserably. Strangely, I want to go out and just walk. It's that kind of a day. [livejournal.com profile] language_idling and I seem to have been talking about the weather a lot lately, which has made me pay attention to it in a way I never usually do.

In other, less random news, I have to phone BT again. This time, about wireless internet access. This is a good thing on principle, it's just the very thought of talking to BT again which is not such a good thing, both on principle and in reality. They'll no doubt shift me from department to department and give me a plethora of reference numbers, all without actually achieving anything at all, and in two week's time, I'll ring them again and they'll have forgotten who I am and had a computer failure in the meantime so everything anyone has ever told them in the last thirty years will have become so much gibberish at the bottom of a computer screen.

So, yes. That is all. This song, which I have been obsessively listening to for a day now, reminds me oddly of Rammstein, which I would say is not a good thing, but I won't, for fear of offending [livejournal.com profile] hathy_col.

language_idling always talks about the weather a lot. In Canadian Literature we learn that being Canadian is about being in opposition to the weather and I don't think this is characterised anywhere so well as it is in the way we continually talk about the weather. I can't leave the house until I've heard the weather report...

Then again, my awareness of the weather isn't always a negative thing. You've always got something to start with when talking to someone you don't know. And in the mornings, as I bike to work, I usually find myself thinking rather poetic thoughts about the fog over the river and the way the wind feels on my cheeks. It's different every morning and I do so love that.

*grins* Talking about the weather is quintessentially British. I think we may have found yet another supporting fact for the theory that Britain and Canada are far more alike than America.
