Cookies and glitter on Chavasse
Jun. 25th, 2003 05:31 pmIt's been a quiet, hot day, on which I have done very little. I arrived in Central to meet Emily (
shipperkitten), Clare (
osiris13) and Colleen (
hathy_col). We were joined shortly after by Hannah (
cucharita) and we went first to Millie's Cookies, where I managed to acquire a rainbow cookie cup, and then to to Chavasse, where we sat in the sun and talked. I took my shoes and socks off and stared at the sky. All was well with the world, even when Colleen started burning in the sun and
cucharita arrived.
We moved after a while, and went to Waterstone's, where the conversation continued. I'll say now that I don't know what we spent so long talking about. I remember discussion of... um... mushrooms, and Nessie the guide dog, and how Colleen has to do a dance in a bag, and glitter, and Harry Potter, and glitter, and well... other stuff.
Becca rang me around lunchtime. She was in town with Megan and Katrina and Charlene and Nicola (bleugh) and looking to escape. They went to the cinema, so she excused herself and came to meet me and the rest. Katrina thought she'd gone home. Hee. Anyway, I was slightly worried, because Becca is the most normal of my friends - the others are all lunatics - but everyone got on just fine. We went back to Chavasse and sat under a tree for an hour or two, just talking and talking. Hannah had to go at half two - dancing with the Pirates of Penzance? No, something to do with pinafores - because she had to teach the twelve-year-olds again. She was singing Streets of Philadelphia earlier - it took me a moment to realise that this time tomorrow, I will be in Philadelphia. I don't like the fact I'm not going to see anyone for two weeks.
Again, weird topics of conversation - although every time Harry Potter came up, we were forced to cover Becca's ears. We were talking about exams, which were the easy questions, and which were the hard ones, and after a moment Enid got up, covered Becca's ears and said that the cutest part of the entire book was Lupin's list of identifying features of werewolves: "One: he's sitting in my chair. Two: he's wearing my clothes. Three: his name's Remus Lupin." I've already mentioned that, I think, but it's so cute it deserves another mention.
Interestingly, just as we were talking about that, and I was muttering things about glitter again, Colleen actually found a speck of gold glitter on herself! We couldn't figure out how and why it got on her, so the general consesus is it was something to do with the telekinetic powers of my insane mind.
Blonde Tony turned up at that point, with Josh, his cousin's baby, and I'm so glad he was around, because the trains were cancelled and we had to get buses. I hate buses. Hate them. I had to get home by hook or crook, and the nearest I got was the Grapes. I'm glad Pedar was home - I rang him and wailed until he came and got me.
So, in conclusion, a really nice, interesting, peaceful day, and something to remember over the next two weeks.
And one more thing - we have a letter from school. Mrs Mills is resigning!
