raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (rock 'n' roll)
[personal profile] raven
The day began badly. I got accosted at the front gate by Mrs Williams (Latin, not Chemistry). It was eight-thirty in the morning, I'd had no sleep, and the woman was shrieking, "Blazer! Earrings! Nails!"
It was one of those moments where I just wanted to shout shut the fuck up. I doubt two sets of earrings, lack of blazer and chipped silver nail varnish will make any difference to my exam performance as a whole, but of course I couldn't tell her that. Instead, I just pretended I couldn't hear and went in with her still shrieking behind me. No doubt she'll hunt me down tomorrow and try again.

First exam, Chemistry, and it wasn't that bad. I managed to fluff the ions tests - I don't know them, I made them up - and similarly with stuff about the anodisation of alumininium and other such things. I think I did all right... for some reason I couldn't stop watching the clock all the way through, and by the time I'd been there for two hours and a quarter I was getting a little twitchy. Afterwards, I was invited by Emma to "go to the park and throw stuff at Will". I politely declined.

Lunch involved Bev obsessing about the Chemistry, Becca obsessing about the veggie pie, and someone-or-other trying to convince Meg that for Katrina's birthday they're going lapdancing. The joke fell spectacularly flat when I discovered Meg doesn't actually know what that means. Ignorance truly is bliss. Yusra slipped off to start her English early (she had to do Arabic as well later) and we retreated to the classroom, where Emma and Becca managed to massacre every poem in the anthology with a few swipes of their pencils.

The English wasn't bad either. The poetry particularly - I didn't have that much to write about for the questions, so for once I finished them on time. Section B, the personal writing, is a blatant excuse to be narcisstic under exam conditions, and I picked "Explain why you spend your free time the way you do." I wrote about writing and fanfic and stuff like that. I'm not really sure what I wrote, to be honest.

Becca and I went into the village on the way home. She wanted to go to Pritchard's to make sure she could order a copy of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and the people were just as nice as Pritchard's in Formby. They're opening at midnight, too. I'm looking forward to it.
Becca and I got to talking about the other Harry Potter books on the way home - I still remember nagging and nagging her - "Read them. Just try them. I swear you'll like them. I'll even lend you my copies!" For years, I never had all four books together - someone was always borrowing at least one. Finally I got sick of it and stopped lending them out. I have to admit, I choose my timing well. I decide to start getting into this fandom three weeks before the new book. Foiled again.

And one last thing - I got back to find a parcel for me, from [livejournal.com profile] language_idling! Meredith, it's beautiful. I can't believe you made it, it's just gorgeous.

And with that, I must go and revise History. Sigh.

heh

I knew that you would choose that writing question! Don't ask me how, but I looked at the question after I'd done mine, and thought, 'Ah, Iona.' I could easily see you answering that one. I even told Clemily afterward that I thought you would, so you can ask them. Heh, I'm pyschic on Mondays.

I'm going to revise history too. It's slightly scary.

And we must stop updating at the same time. I keep looking at my friends page after I've finished, and seeing you've beaten me to it and discussed the exams already. It's getting rather weird.

She knows me so well.
Or, she reads my mind. I've never been sure.

And yes, the updating-at-the-same-time thing, you're absolutely right there, too. Maybe we have some sort of a psychic link...

I did the 'explain' option! Rambled on for about 3 pages, and no doubt wrote a load of utter shit. I think I mentioned fanfic too...

Hannah actually said after the exam she knew which one you would have done. :)

{Cackle} You can't escape us!

Ow, laughing really hurts my head. I really hope I'm not joining the bunch of people throwing up in exams tomorrow...

There's a postcard to follow; it wouldn't fit in the envelope ;)
