Last day

Last day.
Nope, still hasn't sunk in.

Yes, today was my last day ever of compulsory school. I've had my last ever Maths, French, History, Classics, Drama, and hopefully Biology lessons. Mrs Moon still hasn't thought to send for me, but it doesn't look like I can replace Biology with Physics. I'm regretting this more and more - why did I let my mother change my options? Why?

But yes, the last day. There were people crying, people taking pictures, teachers dsitributing cards, confectionary and good wishes. Mrs Miller was sweet - little Galaxy chocolate things and cards, but Mrs Jopling was the weirdest - little fairy cakes with sin, cos, tan, sigma and pi in icing on the top. I think I even saw y = mx+c, but I can't be sure.

The mood was very strange, kinda excited but sad, so bittersweet, and I'd lent Feeder's Comfort in Sound to Julie, who insisted on playing it, and it seemed to provide the perfect soundtrack - uplifting but depressing. People wanted their shirts signed. I signed a few, but it was all so ultimately depressing, and not always because the people were leaving. [livejournal.com profile] cucharita is leaving and I won't be able to cope, but in most people's cases it's why didn't I get to know you when I had the chance? Or maybe, like in Yusra's case, why didn't I know you for longer? She's going back to Jeddah, and it's just not of the good.

Talking of people going far away, there's also Saria, who claimed she'd never cry. "I've only known you guys for three weeks!"
But she cried. She was the first. Others followed, not including me. I'm not leaving. And it's sad that there are people leaving for pastures new, that everything is about to change, and...

Well. I'm still going to be here. So is this journal. I'm just going with the flow.

Of course, it's not the end of everything. We've got Alton Towers tomorrow and then all our exams, starting next Thursday. But soon it will be the end of everything, and the beginning of the next thing, and I don't know how I'm going to cope with the next lot of changes.

*non-touching mental hugs*

Please don't be depressed, dear Raven...

Is sad, yes, to be leaving behind the familiar... and is bittersweet... and probably scary and nervous-making... and new and different things are looming on the horizon.

But they're likely to be good things. :)

You will cope; I know it.

*mwah*

I'm so glad you think so. I think I am optimistic, really... it's just the strangeness of leaving that's getting to me.

And on a quite unrelated subject, does Douglas know about your (gorgeous) drawing of him yet?

I do think so. And that strange "leaving" feeling is perfectly normal, too. :)

*flutter* You say that little 'toon is "gorgeous"? *blush* Thank you, sweetie. :) Well, he hasn't actually seen it yet, but I did get a chance to tell him that it exists... He got a replacement PDA, and we were actually able to have a quick chat tonight! *bouncebouncebounce*

He said he'll see it when he gets home and give me the full critical review. :)

Argh! Mean people! We've been told that we can change our options after we start next year -- up to about four weeks in. Except, I think, subjects like Psychology and Further Maths where the places are limited [for the former] or there aren't many any other people taking the subject [for the latter]. But we can almost definitely change our sciences (providing it fits into the timetable) as there are a lot of people taking them.

{Huggles}
{Watches Iona back away rapidly} ;)

I was talking to her yesterday and she said she was sad - we'd all been writing about our last day and people leaving! How many people from your year are leaving? Only 12 left our school - one was Anna Matthews and she was really upset yesterday. I can't believe she's leaving for 6th form when she's been there since kindergarten! We're all going to miss her sarcastic remarks...

...and then all our exams, starting next Thursday.

I have a PE exam on Monday, then nothing for 2 weeks. Is your first exam English Lit? I think Hannah has one next week - you know they had to change the whole English Lit exam? Some papers got stolen when they were being delivered!

And a random comment - I'm talking to someone who's going to see SoCo next month in London (Lucky thing)! And it all started because her music was put down as "Little" in her most recent entry! How strange. :)

Wish it was as easy for me to change subjects. Meh.
About twelve are leaving from us, too, methinks, though I'm not sure. Yep, my first exam's English Lit, and Drama in the afternoon. They're apparently using "reserve questions." Blah blah angelcakes.

Wanna see SoCo again. Nofair.

I hope they'll let you do what you want. Otherwise I'll come round and beat them with big sticks. :P

Me too! Why can't they play somewhere sensible like Liverpool or Manchester? I was looking at where they are playing, and the venue's a lot larger than before. They're getting more popular! :D

I have no direct experience with UK compulsory schooling, but in the US -- well, let us just say that my life improved dramatically the longer I'd been out, even though I had some dearly loved friends, non-suckish classes, etc. No, things will never be the same, and you will miss aspects of everything. Yes, you can get through this.

Try a transitional object to get you through... well, the transition. Mine is my stuffed Snoopy, who is now 27 years old (not coincidentally, my little sister's age); you're living in the country that invented Pooh and Paddington bears, so there ought to be a suitable friend out there, although I would strongly recommend against using a Teletubby for this purpose (unless you can find one that shows the all-MASH, all-the-time channel).

*laughs* Oh, you know me so well!

I do have Eeyore. He's lovely, Eeyore is - I've been hopelessly in love with him since I was three - I think that on your advice, he may spend tonight in my bed. No Teletubbies, doncha worry!

Your exams start on Thursday? What do you have?
Surely you will have English Lit. and Drama at the same time as me, Wednesday?
Curious...

Wednesday, yes! That must have been some kind of weird typo...

*hugs*

The end of school is hard.
I don't think I cried when I left school. Freedom was just too nice for the first two weeks. Then...

So in a fortnight's time, I become an emotional wreck?
