Last night it took me about half an hour to type up what I had of the latest fic, which was less than I though and means I can throw away the handwritten sheets. I'm really, really enjoying this fic, which usually never happens. It's fun. And the fact I'm writing an Easter-based fic on Easter Sunday is not wasted on me, although I do find Easter mystifying in general. There's the fact it changes date every year, despite the fact it supposedly commerates an actual historical event, and there's the fact Good Friday is called "Good" Friday, despite the fact it would seem to be a spectacularly inappropriate name for it. And there's the resurrection, which is all well and good if you believe in that sort of thing, which I don't.

And then there's the eggs. I know eggs symbolise new life, but where does it say they have to be chocolate? Families apparently give them to each other, whatever, blah angelcakes, just another excuse for me to get pissed off.
I guess it's just another holiday I don't like, like Christmas and Diwali and Mardi Gras and Holi. I like New Year's. I like my own birthday. Apart from those two I don't really like anything, because it's not as if they make much difference to me and Christmas in particular is galling.

Nevermind... it's Easter Sunday now, so it's nearly over.

And anyway, I have fic. Really odd fic, but fic nonetheless.

You're right... Our modern-day "Easter" is ridiculous... It's a tradition that's been repeated so many times, it's morphed into this whole new thing. "Good Friday" should be "Stupid Roman Friday", and Monday be "Everyone Fly Monday"... Oh my little world and it's creepy little calendar.

As for the holiday in general - 4 days off school, free chocolate - I approve.

P.S. I do believe in Jesus. Just don't take every word of the Bible to heart!
P.S.S. What is this "fic", and even though I'm a stranger, may I read? You sound smart.

"Fic" is short for "fanfiction" and this one is based on Terry Pratchett's book Good Omens. If you stick around, you will get to read it, as I plan to post it on LJ when finished. I'm very much flattered.

As for Easter - the days off school are good. As is the chocolate. But there isn't any chocolate in the house at the moment, which may account for my earlier pissed-offed-ness.

Mum got me a chocolate rabbit that had its eye on crooked so it looked like it was rolling its eyes. "This one made me think of you," she said. Let's just say the cynical, witty commentary does not stop for religious holidays.

One day, I will read Good Omens. When I have time. When I'm not reading dull as all fuck Victorian poetry. *sigh*

You'll like Good Omens. May I take a moment to pimp the Crowley/Aziraphale subtext?

And I wish my mum bought me interesting stuff like that! She wouldn't know a cynical witty commentary if it bit her on the street...

I will keep an eye out for it, without a doubt. The subtext, that is.
