I am drinking Malibu with Coke because I never realised before how much I liked it. It tastes like something you eat. Does that make sense? Like thick milkshakes and hot chocolate feel like you've eaten something. That sort of thing.

Blah.

I am ridiculous.

Other than that, I have an interesting-ish few days. On Tuesday night, I could not get to sleep. I got up at about three am, watched TNG and then flicked around for something else to watch. Paramount had some obscure sitcom on; I decided I might as well watch. It turned out to be about a father dealing with the coming-out of his gay daughter in Washington DC.

I couldn't make this shit up.

The next night, Clare and Colleen went to the cinema to see a film about pigeons, only they missed the start so they came to see me instead.

I couldn't make that shit up, either.

Anyway, the three of us decided to be all grown-up and go out for a proper meal. With scampi. And we spent the whole time (there was abysmal service for some reason - we were in a pub called The Morris Dancers somewhere between Southport and Ormskirk) just catching up and planning the resident lunatic Hitch-Hiker's expedition. We plan to take towels. We finished off the night by ordering a chocolate brownie ice-cream sundae. Which we ate in less than a minute and a half. It was embarrassing.

Afterwards, we ended up back at Colleen's, drinking coffee and musing over matters fannish. Colleen asked us a good question - if you somehow acquired the ability to influence JKR's mind, what one sentence would you have her put into Half-Blood Prince?

Colleen's was simple: "'Hello, Harry,' said Sirius."

Mine was never distilled into one sentence. Colleen got to the essence of the Sirius/Remus with Hermione saying, "Honestly, Harry, didn't you know they were sleeping together?"

Clare had been quiet uptil then. Finally, she looked up and said expressionlessly: "In his cupboard, Harry woke up; it had all been a dream."

Later on, Colleen's parents wanted to know what on earth had made us laugh so loud and long. It proved far too difficult to explain.

And since then there has been school, which is never fun. I worked out I have six weeks or thirty school days left to go. I don't know whether or not to be pleased. I am failing Chemistry. And today was work, which I would have enjoyed more had I not been so obscenely tired and plagued by such obnoxious customers. I don't get them often, which makes them a shock. Maybe the nice ones were all home watching the Grand National. Which reminds me - I've found out why the trains weren't running and so I couldn't get home on Friday. The strike was timed to coincide with the National, just for added passive-aggression. No trains is so annoying I can't tell you. The only good aspect was I got the 284 with Nichola. This is Nichola with an H, my predecessor as sixth form librarian, who made the whole of last year so amusing. She's home from Aston for a bit and came in to see us.

Anyway, obnoxious customers - there were the mother/daughter pair who came in and wanted a Biology revison guide. I hunted through the shelves for five minutes before they deigned to inform me they had a specific one in mind. What was it, I wanted to know.

"It's green and black."

Yes. Thank you. That is incredibly helpful. And I wouldn't have minded helping them if they hadn't been so incredibly rude. Every glance, every word, implied that it was all my fault for not knowing immediately, and they eventually flounced off at the fact I didn't realise they wanted a Lonsdale guide when they had been telling me they wanted a Letts one.

The next bastion of obnoxiousness - the woman who comes in and announces, flippantly: "I've ordered a book. I haven't got a clue what it is."

"Okay..." I said slowly. "What's your name?"

"Sally."

I blinked. And hunted for the book. And didn't find it. At which point she announced, "I can see it at the top! It's filed under my last name."

Well, yes. These things usually are. Only, only, you need to know the name of the book you ordered. And your own last name!

Sigh.

Also, I've been offered an interview by the Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Medical School. I'm pleased, as they only interview about half of applicants, but also curiously apprehensive. This was without a doubt my favourite of all the medical schools, and probably the best of them. Anyway. I go off to keel over now.
