Heat

raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (Placebo)
First things first. It's hot. According to the Daily Mail, it is nearly the hottest day ever in Britain. Apparently, the temperature reached 37 degrees in 1990, and it reached 35 today. Of course, it's cooler up here, but the day trippers have been out in full force. Why do they have to be so horrible? Why can't they, oh, I don't know, pick up their rubbish, and not play footie in the middle of the road, and stop ringing the fucking doorbell!

Anyway, that aside, my mother has been aggravating today. She wanted more RAM put in her laptop, so off we went. We wound up somewhere in Aintree, listening to her computer whirr as if about to explode. I distinctly heard the computer guy say, "Too late, it's fubared," before lapsing into more technical terms. While we were there, I got a USB hub for my computer, which seems to make it behave better, so that's all good. We got back in time for lunch and also to discover that Gary the joiner has moved back here from Cornwall, having exchanged his van for a motorbike (no, it doesn't fly). The even more interesting thing about it is the fact he and his girlfriend have matching motorbikes. I've never met Gary's girlfriend, but she sounds cool. Her name is Ingrid, which is cool in itself.

My mother then decided she wanted to get her hair cut, and dragged me with her everywhere looking for a hairdresser. She also tried to shop a bit, and was going to buy a pair of pinstriped trousers but decided not to when I told her she looked like the Prime Minister in them. No, not Tony Blair. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, that's who she looked like. She's now moaning that she really liked them and why didn't she buy them? I asked why didn't she buy them, and she said she couldn't stand to hear me giggle every time she wore them. Mission accomplished. They were awful.

My parents are now watching Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. Even for a Hindi film, it's bad. I mean, really bad. I asked Pedar how it was going a few minutes ago. He said, "As Hindi films go..."
"Yes?" I said.
"It's going."

That says it all, methinks.
