raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (grey nirvana)
Various bits and pieces I want to commit to paper before I go to bed...

I just broke another glass. This brings our total number of glasses to three.

I also have had a quiz stolen from me. Well, I love it when people steal quizzes from me... [livejournal.com profile] dougs, [livejournal.com profile] snowdrop24, [livejournal.com profile] osiris13 [livejournal.com profile] scorpionmars and [livejournal.com profile] candriann all have... but of course, I did steal it from [livejournal.com profile] kittysplitter.

What else? Oh, yeah... [livejournal.com profile] grungediva was talking about menarche today, for some reason. So, let's say 30% of the people on Livejournal never had one. A very small percentage haven't had theirs yet. So that leaves a hell of a lot of people to bitch about theirs. It's been three years since mine - September 1999. Odd what a big deal it was at the time. I remember Becca's was within a few days of mine... it was all very odd. TMI, I know.

For some reason none of my LJ comments are being sent to me.
I'm going to bed now. Good night.

My mother thinks I have murdered all her plants. I don't call it murder. More like manslaughter.
But the better part of today was going through some of the things she'd brought back with her. The dupattas are my favourite part - it's impossible for them not to be beautiful, and the ones she's got are especially so. There's blue, black and red ones - made of chiffon with sequins and beads sewen on, light and translucent and softly gorgeous. She bought the stuff by the metre and had it made up for about Rs. 30, and the results are just wonderful. The tailor was going to throw away the offcuts, but my mother stopped her. She took the spare chiffon bits, had them sewn round the edges and made them into scarves for me... beautiful things, that I plan to either loop round my neck or tie round my waist through my belt loops. Unfortunately, no red one - she promises we can get red ones in December - right now I have a soft black and white one to try out. Mashi sent a couple of necklaces for me - black thread with hanging clay pendants, and someone else sent a crystal pendant. To be honest, I don't like it much - it doesn't have the richness of the clay and terracotta. I've decided there's another way to individualise my dress sense - there's nothing to stop wearing the chiffon scarves and the jewellery with my own clothes - cultural fusion, if you like. I'd like to wear some of the stuff I wear in India - the anklets and bangles and earrings, for example, but so much of it just isn't practical here. I remember when I was younger Mashi used to tie red roses in my hair in the morning - by the end of the day, the buds would have opened into the most beautiful tea-roses, and sometimes she would use lotus flowers or lilies, anything that was in the garden, and the scent would get into my hair so it always smelt of flowers.
