Blurry red and green fuzz
Apr. 8th, 2003 11:32 amMy glasses are fixed! I can see!
And what's more, the school cleared me to go after a lot of bureaucracy, and off I went into the village. The optician-people were very helpful and did it in five minutes, but not being one to waste an opportunity, I ambled off in the direction of the village proper. I was even confident about the traffic lights. Blurry red and green fuzz is not usually an indicator of safety or otherwise, but it’s all I could go on when I was half-blind. Obviously I was breaking dozens of rules, but I went into Pritchards. I always feel safe from everything, even the apocalypse, in a bookshop. So I spent a very pleasant ten minutes before returning to school, signing in and listening to the secretaries moaning about the huge amount of interruptions by the door buzzer they have to face.
So, they’re distracted from whatever it is they do at their desks to do their jobs?
Anyway. I rang my mother, told her the good news, bought a packet of Revels, and then went on a general wandering around the school. I was going to lurk in the library – there’s no way in hell I’m going back to English – but it was full and I crashed one of the computers, so I came up here instead. I obviously shouldn’t be here (first computer room) either, but I am typing this into a Word document so at least it looks like I’m not on the internet. I’ve got Drama next, which may actually be a good thing as I’ve spent the entire day so far online. I wouldn’t have anything to do.
Except maybe work. Twenty minutes more, but at least I’ve not had to do that To Kill a Mockingbird essay. It’s timed, and I couldn’t have done it anyway if I hadn’t been able to see. It’s just today and tomorrow left now, if you ignore Thursday which I steadfastly am. It also means I have to do those stupid make-up sketches. I don’t draw, I don’t sketch. Why do people not understand this?
And I’ve just finished that packet of Revels. Oops.
Oh, yes - one more thing. I am now co-moderator of a community,
mash100th. It's going to be a M*A*S*H drabble challenge community, for which I made the layout. It's also going to have one of the "My fandom..." icons, but I don't know which one. I would say the crazy people one but
apestaartje already claimed it. Maybe the "My fandom is older than yours" one. I'l have to think about it, maybe create a poll later on.

on 2003-04-08 09:04 am (UTC)Book shops are ambrosia to me :) There's something safe and comfortable about them, especially the ones that deal in used and rare books. I have a favorite here, called Chamblin's Book Mine, which advertises as "perveyor of used, rare, and nonexistent books". It's run by a little old gentleman whom I am convinced is a genuine book gnome.
Speaking of M*A*S*H, an odd thing happened....we had been watching war coverage while my mother was here and the Tivo recording device decided that meant we would also like to watch M*A*S*H. I hadn't known it was still on here, even in re-runs, so I'm currently enjoying reaquainting myself with old friends :) I'm also writing some fan fiction; it's not slash, but I thought it might be fun since I'm not doing anything else. Give me a holler if you want to see any of it. I think the rest of my friends would likely laugh.

By the way, how are you getting on in your new place? I was kinda disappointed that you're only on dial-up, now...

on 2003-04-08 09:42 am (UTC)Yeah, dial-up sucks bigtime....30 seconds per page load right now. I'll have more frequent access when I have the ability to use my own computer. I feel funny using his. Probably by the end of the week I'll be back to at least one post per day.
When I've polished the fic up, I'll give it to you. It's not your standard; I wasn't comfortable writing for the characters by themselves so I dug out an old daydream (my father was a medic in Korea, though not in the war, and I often envisioned him interacting with the 4077). *giggles* It's a chance to make the characters do all sorts of things you wish they would but never did.
