And music becomes salvation.
Jan. 15th, 2003 09:42 pmI watched that M*A*S*H ep
scorpionmars was telling me about earlier, that is, the one where Hawk is blinded. (Predictably, his first reaction is to ask if he can keep his nickname).
I was in one of those thoughtful moods again... I think the worst thing on earth is to wake up and find you're blind. It feels like the world has ended. And the world is so different when you're blind. It's a lot bigger. And a lot more frightening. It's like every childhood nightmare you ever had comes back to haunt you, lurking just where you can't reach. After a while, though, you do learn to manage because you have no choice. And music becomes salvation.
History mock tomorrow. I have to finish with the anti-semitism and also read up about America in Depression. Oh, joy.

Yes. I think I'll miss the music when it finally stops.

If I had to choose between losing sight or hearing, I think I'd have to give up hearing. I would miss music, yes, but I think the loss of the visual world would have a much more profound and negative impact.
