Sign #87928374 that you have spent too long doing business accounts: you can't find your rubber and the WORLD HAS ENDED.

omg, where is it.

Also what the fuck is a closing adjustment really. Who cares. (Seriously. Double-entry. Who gets off on that.) I hate everything.

(Okay, here is something I do not hate: the worked examples always feature the accounts of the Fry & Laurie Theatrical Supplies And Whatnot Shop. I have very little trouble and indeed substantial joy in picturing this. But nevertheless, where is my RUBBER.)

edited to add: okay maybe I don't hate this either.

Actually, I quite like double entry. When used properly, it makes a lot of sense. But then again, I'm an accounts clerk, & I'm biased - if my f%$&ing clients would just -

1) use common sense i.e. imagine the line between the debit/credit is an equals sign, the debit entries have to equal the credit entries,
2) go on the local council's small business training initiatives, which include basic bookkeeping & business knowledge classes or,
3) hire a bookkeeper who actually knows their arse from their elbow,

- I'd have a lot less trouble.

Regarding closing adjustments? You'd have to specify what type of adjustments e.g. accruals, prepayments, various control accounts, stock, etc.

*pats hand* That's why pencils with rubbers on the end are a good idea. It means if you lose your main rubber you always have a backup. Goodness knows they're bugger all use for anything other than a minor smudge.

I have all those types of closing adjustments, and possibly more. I don't know, I am a lawyer.[1] Why, why do I need to know this? And give that I do why am I so spectacularly bad at it?
