Pedar is unbelievable at times. He blatantly stole my modem, unplugged it and left the wires trailing over my bedroom floor, and now refuses to give it back! So, in revenge, I have stolen his entire computer, modem and all, and am contemplating uninstalling the internet explorer on this computer. If you can't beat 'em, cripple 'em.
The writing is going quite well at present. I've even caught up with most of the homewoek I'd left undone since Thursday, so I think I can indulge in an hour's writing. The problem is whether or not I have anything in my head to write about.
M*A*S*H fanfic is much more difficult than Stargate fanfic, which is all I've really written until now. The problem is the characters. Jack is a blunt, straightforward character - military, deeply concerned about his team, a slight maverick but does believe in the regulations... I could do a good character sketch of him - in fact, I have - here. And to go on, Daniel is another good character - a little naive, an idealist, an academic mind and a deep sense of moral duty... I could do character studies on him in abundance, and of course I have - here.
But M*A*S*H is different, and more difficult. Actually the difficulty can be summed up in one word - Hawkeye. Constantly wisecracking, seemingly irreverent but actually a deep thinker, a sharp temper but cares deeply for Trapper (sigh.... slashiness), practical joker, no respect for authority, but a vocational doctor and a talented surgeon, so much so he holds the position of Chief Surgeon above a major and a colonel. In other words, Hawkeye is anything but a straightforward character to write about convincingly - he's a mess of contradictions, unlike the Stargate cast of characters. It's not necessarily better or worse, but different, and good in its own way.
And I'll get it. I'll get it! Hawkeye was the quintessential liberal... and there's been no shortage of liberalism in my life.
